Some dogs are definitely better to cuddle up with than others. Sometimes you just want to sit with a small sized dogs and keeping petting it. Lapdogs serve that purpose. They aren’t a specific breed category but rather the kind of dog whose temper and size are conducive to sitting on your lap. We selected 8 breeds that make great lapdogs.

1. Pekingese

Considered to be sacred in ancient China, Pekingese were extremely pampered dogs. To this day these small dogs make great lapdogs. They don’t weigh much either and are very affectionate towards their masters.

2. Lhasa Apso

Initially from Tibet, Lhasas are affectionate, lively, intelligent and easy to train. They do require extensive grooming though. They are also good watchdogs.

3. Pomeranian

They are one of the most popular lapdogs. They originated from Germany and are the smallest kind of Spitz. These teddy-bear-looking dogs love being pampered and hence, make excellent lapdogs.

4. Chihuahua

The king of lapdogs, Chihuahuas are the most popular lapdogs. The smallest breed in the world is perfect for apartment living and the only exercise it needs is from walking around your house.

5. Yorkshire Terrier

These dogs are very energetic but are great lapdogs. They love cuddling up and sitting on your lap. They do, however, require a lot of grooming.

6. Bichon Frise

This used to be a royalty dog. They are energetic, crave attention and very affectionate. They have curly coats and require regular grooming.

Pugs thrive on attention and affection. They are playful, teasing and witty dogs. Having short hair, they require little grooming efforts.

8. Shih Tzu

They love being pampered and don’t mind their hair being tied up in pretty knots. They have regal personalities and even look a bit like lions. They may, however, shows signs of stubbornness.
