Each one of us would have heard of Dr Batra’s Homeopathy Clinics. Some of you will have a firsthand experience at the clinic and others would have noticed the clinic through newspaper advertisements. Either way you cannot miss them. The clinics have a widespread presence across the country. The exact number would be 127.
The homeopathy science is an age old science and has been widely practiced across the county. Now the vision of Dr. Mukesh Batra, who is the founder for the chain of specialty hospitals, has expanded the reach of homeopathy to pets. YES! You heard it right now your pets can be treated through homeopathy. Though at the present it is only restricted to people of Delhi.
Read on to find out more about this exceptional clinic. Dr. Batra will be sharing his vision and also talks about Homepathy as a new treatment branch for your pets along with talking about his clinical facility and expansion plans for this innovative clinic.
DogSpot: Homeopathy is not a widespread branch when it comes to veterinary sciences. What initiated the vet clinic in Delhi?
Dr Batra: That is not true. Nearly 50 per cent of vets use homeopathy in their practice in the UK; there are more than a handful of vets who use homeopathic medicines in the US. In India, the use of homeopathy for animals is relatively restricted. With the launch of this new hospital, together with other high-tech, state-of-the-art facilities, we would be able to treat pets with homeopathy, which is a safe and effective treatment for them.
Vet homeopathy has had a long history. It was Dr Samuel Hahnemann, MD, the founder of homeopathy, who first postulated the use of his medical system on animal patients. In 1982, the British Association of Homoeopathic Veterinary Surgeons (BAHVS) was formed. In 1984, it took the initiative to launch veterinary courses at the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital. Four years later, the International Association for Veterinary Homeopathy (IAVH) was founded.
DogSpot: How is the response for the clinic? What kind of clientele do you get in the clinic?
Dr Batra: The response we have received for the clinic has been phenomenal till now. There are a lot of people seeking homeopathic help to treat their pets. We get pets for all genres; it is not restricted to only cats and dogs. We get guinea pigs, hamsters, birds and rabbits also. The clinic is more word of mouth at the moment.
DogSpot: Do you plan to open more clinics across the county?
Dr. Batra: We have plans to open two new clinics, in Mumbai and Bengaluru, by March-April 2015.
DogSpot: Lot of the ailments for pets need appropriate diagnosis, which is viable through various medical instruments. What facilities does your clinic provide?
Dr. Batra: Yes, indeed. Our groundbreaking initiative offers a range of services right from blood tests and X-rays to vaccination, grooming, surgical procedures, homeopathic treatment along with a . It is staffed by a dedicated team of trained vet and equipped with modern technology and state-of-the-art infrastructure. pet shop
The hospital has customized operation tables, imported hydraulic machines and bath tubs to ensure zero-trauma to pets. One of the clinic’s prized features are the bathtubs in the pet grooming center that function with hydraulic lifts i.e. a system where the tub can go up and down for pets to climb in and get out of them easily.
DogSpot: It is been not long that the clinic has started, what are the common problems that you see in the pets? Any special case that you would like to mention?
Dr. Batra: The clinic treats all kinds of health problems right from skin disease, such as warts and eczema to parvo, distemper, rabies, gastroenteritis, anemia, worms, tick fever, and tumours (cancer). Cancer in animals is primarily caused by the consumption of branded imported food and preservatives.
Most often, we find ourselves unable to say ‘no’ to anyone who walks in with an injured animal and needs immediate treatment. The common breeds of dogs we get are , Pugs , Labradors and German shepherds . Besides, the trend towards animals is fast-changing with people adopting and taking care of stray animals and mongrels. Cocker Spaniels
Only recently, a pet lover found an abandoned pup whimpering in a by-lane in Green Park. Taking a closer look, she found it was sick and bleeding and about to die. Instead of turning the blind eye, she took it to our clinic in Yusuf Sarai. The doctors at the clinic gave the pup a vaccine shot and medicine for its tick fever. Much to her relief, the pup is back on its feet and looking much healthier.
DogSpot: How do you see the animal medicine scenario in India? What improvements will you like to see in the coming years?
Dr. Batra: I’d like a new surge in the use of veterinary homeopathy, primarily because of the bad effects of powerful medicines, especially antibiotics, their usage has not only led to drug resistance, but also drug-induced diseases (iatrogenic disorders) in pet and farm animals.
All species and all types of animals, including pets, respond to homeopathic treatment right from cats and dogs to farm animals, from horses and ponies to wild animals, from cow, buffalo to goats and from birds and reptiles to fish.
As a matter of fact, organic farmers rely upon homeopathy, especially in Europe, and also in our country, as an effective and safe system of medicine which does not give rise to drug residues in meat, milk or eggs. Conventional farmers also make use of its benefits. Among other advantages, especially in farm animals, is the fact that homeopathy cannot provoke 'antibiotic resistance' in bacterial populations.
Fifty years ago, no major scientific or experimental research was conducted to establish homeopathy’s effectiveness in a scientific, clinical setting. This has now changed. Dozens of clinical research papers are being published, on a regular basis, across the world, showing the extensive clinical benefits of this simple, safe, holistic and effective therapy.
I’d like vet homeopathy to expand rapidly and play a pivotal role in areas such as first-aid, first-line, complementary, integrated, or also as ‘last-choice’ medicine.
DogSpot: What message would like to give to our readers?
Dr. Batra: I believe animals and pets are not getting what they deserve. Just because they can’t speak to us does not mean they do not have a choice. They and their owners now have a holistic choice like our animal clinic with homeopathy and allied interventions. The best part about the homeopathic medication given to the animal, in contrast to allopathy (conventional medicine); it has no side-effects.
