Great Subject. I TRUST NO ONE. That is the way I live my life.
I buy my vacine from over the internet and straight to my front door. I check the date to be sure they did not send me vacine that is ready to be thrown away. I make sure I tell them that I will check the dates and if it is not good for a long period say, 6 mo, up to 1 yr, then I complain and may send it back. I mostly just let them know that I am up to thier tricks.
I buy all my needles and do not buy vaccines with the needle included as they charge too much for the adding of one lousy needle when I can buy about a hundred needles for pretty cheap.
Depending on who is buying my pups and when they are being shipped is how i vacinate my pups.
I use one room to do all my vaccinations in and bleach it down or keep it clean and germ free. I send the used vials and needles to special collection pick ups off my property.
Most of my puppies go to family companion homes and they let me know if they have ever had a dog die in that household of any type of disease.
Most of the puppies will get a measle shot at 6 wks old. Then at 7 1/2 wks or there abouts they will get a distemper/corona virus shot. at 9 wks i give them a puppy shot but I only give 1/2 of a shot to young or small pups. Most times i only give 1/2 a shot. This will start my pups system to build up.
At 11 wks I give a full puppy shot. None of my puppies have ever died of any diseases in over 15 yrs of breeding.
I make sure that my clients know to take their dogs to the vet. If they have had all of the above shots i tell them that they do not need any shots for about 2 wks. I tell them to start off with a puppy shot. give them 2 - 3 wks then give the parvo shot. by that time the pup is about 14 wks old and can handle the parvo shot.
i hardly ever give a parvo shot to my dogs. My dogs are not show dogs nor do they get around the city or leave the farm. they go for rides in my car/van and go to some parks or up in the mountains but they are not OVER EXPOSED to a large population of dogs. Parvo is not a problem where i live.
I give a one yr boost with parvo and i give a full shot, say an 8 in one from galaxy.
I REFUSE to give my dogs rabies shots: a). because a vet has to do it and i do not
know what they are shooting into my dog and b). because my dogs have a really bad reaction to it and almost die from it. They loose hair/coat, go off their feed for three months. It is only when they get pregnant do they come out of the bad health and thinness. when they get pregnant, right away they begin eating and filling out. the coat comes in and they look like champions in less than one month. It takes about two weeks before i notice that the rabies shot has weakened my dogs.
It is my belief that pharmasotical companies are poisoning our dogs and rendering them unbreedable.
I do recommend that if you live in a rabied nation you must give your dogs rabie shots but wait until they are at least one yr old as i have witnessed a young 4 mo old pup go into seziours three days after a rabie shot. The dog came out of the seziours only after the emergency doctor gave the pup the pills for epilypsy. it took one week for the pups epilyptic seziours to reside. The pup has never had another seziour.
The above works for me and in my situation. i think every breeder has to find what is right for him/her and their enviroment. Hope this helps you guys though... Lois
