Benefits of Giving your Australian Cattle Dog Homemade Food

In recent times many popular dog foods have been recalled or taken off the shelves due to illnesses related to the contents in the food. Many owners have had concerns for their dog and have turned to creating their own meals for their dog to ensure they are not receiving contaminated foods.

The Australian Cattle Dog is quite an energetic dog that requires a unique nutritional diet. Some of their nutritional foods should contain: nutrient sources, a balance of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, fatty acids and minerals. Preparing your own homemade dog food can save you a lot of money too. Many Vets have identified a lot of their patient problems relate to the food they eat. These can be anything from skin irritations, hot spots, yeast infections, thyroid, liver, kidney problems just to start with. This can rack up a lot of money in vet bills every year. It has been recommended that owners learn more about the nutritional needs of their Australian Cattle Dog.

The best diet is based on quality fresh ingredients without the preservatives. Just a couple hours a week is all it takes to cook and prepare their food. It has been known that home cooked food is far healthier and cheaper than buying the general all breed commercial dog food.

The ideal ingredients for this breed consist of ground vegetables, wheat, oats, meat – rabbit, beef and kangaroo. An added tip for meats for the Australian Cattle dog are ones with low fat to muscle ratio. So something low in fat but high in fiber is recommended. But also owners should refrain from giving their dog any soy, white rice, beet pulp, or fish. Vitamin C is also a supplement to avoid due to the damage it can do to the kidneys and liver.

Many factors do come into play when preparing the right amount of each nutrient in every dog’s diet. This may be due to their activity level, gender, age, history and weight.

If you have an Australian Cattle Dog, consider changing to a homemade dog food. The health and vitality of your dog will greatly improve as well as being kinder to your wallet. It may be beneficial to look into recipes sufficient for this breed that will ultimately give you a healthy dog for years to come.
