After the recent release of the number of euthanized dogs in the city, another incident of violence against a pet lover has raised questions of how pet friendly Bengaluru as a city really is.
Vasanth, a 35 year old dog lover and an application development programmer with a major IT firm is a resident of Old Airport Road. He was allegedly assaulted and threatened by a gang of six men after he tried to save three dogs from a Breeder. Vasanth had noticed a
and Labrador Retriever being kept tied up on a short leash with no room to move about, minimal food and no water. When he tried to rescue the dogs, he was beaten black and blue by 6 men who dragged him out of his apartment, punched his face, jaws and stomach and left him badly injured.
Vasanth had noticed the dogs chained to the apartment gates and had contacted Amala Suman, another dog lover who came assessed the situation and questioned the breeder - Mr Manjunath about the entire thing. It was later that night that Manjunath went to Vasanth’s apartment along with 6 men and assaulted him. The assailants also threatened to kill Vasanth if he did not mind his business and raised any further complaints. Even in previous occasions, Vasanth had requested Manjunath to be considerate about the welfare of the dogs, but he had paid no heed.
If such incidents continue, it will be very difficult for the pet lovers in the city to lead a peaceful life with their pets. The local administration will have to extend a helping hand to people who stand up for the rights of pets so that there are no such assaults and threats to anyone.
