Euthanized Dog Rises From The Dead

09 Oct 2014 | by Neha Manchanda | Posted in: Wag News

lazarusFor Animal control officer Wanda Snell, it was all out of a science fiction book and still finds it hard to believe really happened at the kennel.

Lazarus or Houdini as he is more popularly called, came back from the dead to surprise everyone who has known him. Lazarus had been dropped off in the shelter by his owner who was moving from the city and could no longer take care of his pet. Unfortunately when Lazarus was dropped off in the kennel he was cut and bleeding after been stuck by a car and a pad on his left rear foot was missing too.

Once slightly recovered, Lazarus was put up for adoption but did not receive many takers and was scheduled to be euthanised. On the scheduled date, with Wanda Snell as the witness, the veterinarian injected Lazarus with the lethal weapon and saw Lazarus twitch a little and then go silent. Lazarus was removed to a separate room to be later taken away with the bodies of other animals who had also been euthanised.

However, when Snell came back next morning she was in a for a huge shock when she saw Lazarus walking about and having water. Though a little wobbly in the start, he has now recovered well. Doctors think the due to an improper dosage maybe the reason that Lazarus escaped from the clutches of death.

Lazarus is now a happy dog who has been living with a family in a suburb in Alabama city of Birmingham. Lazarus is currently on medication to cure heart worms and mend the injured leg from the accident, he enjoys romping in the grass and playing with his new family and their other dog. His new family says that Lazarus is a brave soul and definitely has an angel looking over him!
