Ma German Sheppi bites a lot...!!

Posted in Puppy Care | By: Anshu | 05 Jan 2009 6:01 pm

Hey,

My German Sheppi is now 2.5 months old. He was 6 weeks old when I had took him. Initial days he used to bite a lot but since his teeths were not that sharp, I ignored his bitings. He has lots of toys and bones to play & bite on.

Now he keeps biting me when he is with me.If I am ignorant, he jumps on my face to catch my nose. I am the one who feeds him but two of my friends who pampers and beats him on his bad doings(playing with clothes, footwears, chopping the paper into pieces exactly like a rat), he behaves well in front of them. But my concern is that one of those two friends beats him a lot when I am not around saying that he is training him. Is it fine?? He is gonna be there with him just for 10 more days...but is such kind of biting behavious not because of the beatings and scoldings which he gets from my friend??

Also he was kinda leader amongst the litter of 7 puppies.

Can you suggest me if I should stop him getting punished and deal it in a better way.

Best

at 2.5 months its just a puppy, its playing normal, ie. normal without training. Please spend tim with the puppy and do some behavioural correction training. Its too small to go to a trainer. Give the puppy lots of chew toys to nibble and tire himself.
As far your friend goes, he has no business of beating the kid, it will harm the puppy physically and emotionally. It might pick up more bad habits and it will become diffcult to get rid off. The puppy can become very submissive or aggressive. Your friend is doin more harn than good.
Trust me if my friend had done the same I wouldnt leave the puppy to him and my question to you... HAS YOUR FFRIEND TRAINED ANY DOG IN HIS LIFE? If not KEEP OUT

Hi
You have a small child and your friend beating the child is no option to correct the dog behaviour. Please keep such friends of yours away from the puppy.

Since you seem to interact the most the puppy, I would advise that when ever your puppy does these things that you don't like you please convey it to puppy. You have to communicate with it verbally and emotionally. Even if you don't like to do it heart of heart, you need to show your puppy that you didn't like his behaviour.

When he starts behaving himself, you acknowledge it by rewarding him. give him something to eat or keep a toy that he loves the most away and only give it for sometime when he/she(your puppy) behaves itself.

Since its nearly 12 weeks old, you must yourself start grooming its behaviour. Don't delay this. I would also suggest you lead a more disciplined life and show your dog that you are the boss and its a level below you. The dog will reflect the owners characteristics, you can't make him into something that you are not in your personal life.

You will have to earn your respect, else the dog will start dominating you.

I would also like to suggest that you or an family member of your household handle the dog. So do not let others(friends or relatives) handle the dog. This will help the dog understand whom it has to obey. German Shepherds will be excellent dogs if you groom them (Behaviourally and emotionally) well.

I hope this information is useful to you.

Best regards
Navzer

wow ok first off what are you thinking letting your friend beat your puppy? during that age it sticks in the brain for pain so your puppy is learning that people will hurt me. That is not ok its not training its just mean. Puppies chew on everything. They are teething. I have a 14 week old gsd she chews on everything when she tries to chew on me i give a firm no biting then i give her something she can chew on i give her ice to chew on she loves it or i freeze dif toys so far she is getting the idea. You also should go to training classes since you havent done it before.
