Posted in Obedience Training | By: Jatin | 30 Jun 2008 7:10 pm

Hi Rana,

Can you please let me know, when is the best time to start advanced training for my Pug which presently is 3 months old.

By advanced training i mean using the services of a pro trainer...

and in case if you can recommend a trainer to me who believes in soft training not training with a stick or beating up the pup...

Regards,

Jatin

Hi jatin,

You can start giving professional training lessons to you Pug at the age of 6 months. Till such time your Pug reaches that age you can continue giving lessons by following what Mr. Chatterjee had suggested.

Before you go on to get a Professional trainer, it is important to set clear objectives in front of you. What kind of training you want to give to you Pug Obedience, Show, etc. You will need to clearly spell this out to the trainer.

Where are you based and what kind of training do you require for your Pug?

Regards

Gaurav

i begin training my puppies at the age of three weeks old. i teach them how to track food. once their brains engage and they realize there is some kind of communication going on... then training begins...
by my voice, my body language and my touch, each of my puppies learns to sit, not to bark, not to jump and to come when called all before the age of eight weeks old. during that time i also teach them to pee on command so by the time they are 10 weeks old they are potty trained and have the basic learning behaviors instilled in their brains.
if i am going to do retrieving with a dog i start at six weeks old.
if i am going to do obedience i start at six weeks old.
i show train every pup as i groom them. 'stand stay' 'good puppy' reward.

there is absolutly no excuse for any one to have a dog that is 8 months old and biting, jumping and carrying on. such persons should educate themselfs first before they create a dog that no one wants.
those are my thoughts.
