at a glance ... if u hadnt mentioned they were shepherds , one would have thought this particular picture is of a saint bernard with a longish stop !!!

oooh, you have a very good eye. it is not a shepherd, it is an ALSATIAN SHEPALUTE and this particular pup is an outcross F-2 (second generation). I outcross my dogs to keep the health impecable (hybrid vigor). But, there is no Saint in them. Malamute x shepherd was crossed to make this breed 22 yrs ago. During the past 22 yrs of breeding, we kept only large boned dogs. the outcrosses along the way were English Mastiff once in the 8th generation. This particular pup has no other breeds in it other than, Mastiff, shepherd, malamute. Remember though that those crosses were introduced about 15 yrs ago. 22 years ago for the shepxmal. THis bone structure and (conformation) is consistent and breds true.

wow... that is the most interesting thing i have read this week... thanks for sharing .how big does this (hy)breed really grow ?(*pun intended) i see here that Bi is around 13-14 months of age now. do u have recent photos i can see? what are the health problems that they generally face ie , Panosteitis,vWD, cataract etc... how abt the bones and the hinds? any hip/ elbow dysplacia? and the diseases home to the malamutes like autoimmune diseases, thyroid diseases?and cataract , eye problems related to the mastiff? what about the temperament of the dog? any problems with mating or child birth?what about the life expectancy? how susseptable are they to illness? and what colours do they aquire? i am sorry this comment has too many questions in it but please ans as many and at ur convinience as i am very interested to know more about this. lastly is this breed recognised by the AKC?

1. how big - tall=25-30 inches tall at the shoulders/ weight- 80-130 lbs
2. photos - google American Alsatian Shepalutes (i will try to get some)
3. health issues - none. Hybrid vigor. when one outcrosses and selectively breeds for health and temperament before asthetics you can illiminate all health issues after 20 yrs or so. we have been breeding these dogs for over 22 yrs. now so we dont have any health issues in our stock.
4. Temperament - easy going, loving, non hyper, non barking, non whinning
5. problems with breeding- none
6. live expectancy - 13 yrs.
7. suseptable to illness, none...
8. colours - right now they come in sable colors only (wolfgray, silver sables, golden sables and tri sables)
