if you want a dog... you should find a dog shelter and visit and play with the dogs there... once you are comfortable with dogs there... then you may want to adopt but first get the scare out of your system. Visit friends who have dogs... play with dogs and puppies... try handling someone else's dog in his or her presence ...

hi A.prabhakar, thanks for ur reply.. and ur suggestions. frankly speaking we are from chennai and my hubby got transfered here in hyderabad. we come from a very big family. here we dont know anybody & feel so much lonely. iam a house wife i have hell a lot of plenty time inspite of house work & my day goes only watching tv & gym. so just thought if we have a dog that would be a companion & security as well when my hubby goes for work. i live in a extreme outer part of city. neither we have friends who have dogs nor know a dog shelter. i posted this query to know these details only. if u know any dog shelter here may be u have a friend in hyd who knows about dog shelter. etc. cos we dont wana land in a wrong place.

getting a pup is every bit as complicated as having a baby in the house. Vaccinations house-breaking(toilet training n other stuff) at no pint is it easy. Its not very clear what is a soft natured dog in ur opinion, pups r all soft natured but they are every bit as naughty as a lil child.

Dogs are very easily & quickly attached to their human families... and parting a dog away is very unfair, they won't eat even if u're away for a day for the first time, they wud chew up ur shoe or poop on an expensive carpet (if there is a carpet an un trained pup will choose to poop on it) and not know why u r mad at them coz they have no remorse over it, any material means nothing to a dog it dosn't know what it cost u etc, it just dosnt... n these r issues first time dog owners need to be ready to deal with.. research it.. read abt dogs and pup.

Its quite odd that u r "mentally scared" of them and still want them, any pup u get for a month or 2 will indeed become a family member. if u havn't experienced it b4 be ready to be overwhealmed by the attention and affection they offer.

I agree with all the comments posted above - please think long and hard before you keep a og - a dog is not a toy and it would be unfair and downright cruel to the pup to abandon it once you start facing problems.

Excellent thought, never buy a puppy from a pet store, veterinary doctor or a backyard breeder. Read this blog http://woofindia.wordpress.com . Post your query there and he will help you. Best guy in India.

take care
