I have got a 45 days old Cocker Spaniel. We are feeding him Ceralac Rice for the starters, then we started him for Drools Puppy Veggie dog food. He does not eat that and tries to get away from it. Whereas when we give him ceralac, he happily has it.

Is it because it is Veg that he is not having, or is it that he does not like the brand of the food.

Thanks,
Salil

Dogs have fewer tast busters as compared to humans. The taste is not as important a motivational factor for dogs as smell. The Ceralac you offer to your dog has fresh aroma which attracts your dog's nose while Drools which is full of preservatives has a standard chicken smell which dogs tend to get used to after first and second intake. So, unless your dog is starving, he won't even smell dry commercial food, no matter whether you feed Drools, Royal Canine, or Taste of Wild.
Considering the fact that your dog is just 45 days, I won't suggest you switching to home-cooked meal. You can continue feeding Ceralac. Apart from that, you can try this trick: Boil water till it steams up giving vapours and sprinkle it on the kibbles. You may also sprinkle a pinch of chicken soup powder into the boiling water and then add into the kibbles.
Could you also try to feed a better brand then Drools. Drools and Pedigree are high in animal byproduct. The best food right now in the market is Eukanuba. After 3 months, you can switch to home-cooked fresh meal which your dog will certainly love!!!!

my dog is allergic to drools...i feed him professional pedigree which is good and his devt is better than avg. For such a small pup, I suggest that u soak the dogfood in milk or warm water (just enuf to soften the food) before giving as the pup may not be able to chew hard dog food (of course this differs from dog to dog). One the pup is used to dog food, gradually reduce the amount of water used for soaking and let the pup transition to hard food as it keeps teeth healthy. This transition can be done over a month or so. You can later switch to raw/home cooked food high in meat protein or maintain a diet of good quality dog food throughout.

Dear Mr. Salil ,

Start giving Drools veggy puppy in small Quantities soaked with warm water and mix with cerelac. slowly increase the amount of drools and decrease quantity of cerelac so that you shift over completely to drools in 7 to 10 days . The drools veggy puppy contains 30 % protiens extracted from cereals and added with amino acids which is very good for muscle and body development.
cerelac contains less protine and more carbohydrates which makes dogs fatty and with weak muscle , cerelac is designed for human babies not for puppies. It is not good to be feed for long terms.

@Nimisha : Just as you said about the transition from Cerelac to Drools has happened, and it really has brought about a change in his Coat and Physique. I was worried earlier that if he will be ok with Veg food. But i guess Drolls Veggie is working really good for him.

Thanks.

Golden rule....never buy a pet from someone who does it for a living as their life depends on the sale of the puppy and once sold it is a closed chapter. which breed are you looking for and why ? How would u know they are showing the correct pictures, most of the breeders will show u only fake parents as they dont want u to get in contact with the breeder so that u will know the actual price and comission :) I only breed rottweilers for 7 years now and i have friends who breed labs, golden and other breeds as a speciality and they do it for passion for the breed and not $$$ Thanks & Regards Lorven Pet Shop New BEL ROAD, Bangalore Shop Location > http://tinyurl.com/7rv87uk

I am not a doc but have experience...of 10 years with dogs Few questions... Does your dog have ticks ? Check the temp with a thermometer and let me know. Give microdox ( 1 tab per 10kg body weight ) If it still doesnt eat then take to doc immediately as saline needs to be given.
