Hi,
I own a female Neapolitan Mastiff who is 14 months old. i have seen some Neos on the internet and have noticed that most of them are huge as compared to my pet. Also when i took her for the KCI registration, the judge did mention that Neos generally should have a heavy head and this one doesnt. What in your opinion can i do to improve on the size of her the head & her overall size. Also, i used to feed her comercial food till she was 1 year old and have stopped it now. as of now, she is completely on home cooked food, can you please advise which one is better, home cooked food or commercial food? As far as her exercise routine is concerned, i dont let her run and exert herself much as was suggested by almost all the Vets i consulted in Delhi and Gurgaon. She goes for a walk thrice a day and for teh rest of time, she keeps roaming around in the house. i didnt get her weight and height checked recently but the last i remember was almost 4-5 months back when she got operated upon for the cherry eye. At that time her weight was around 40 KGs.
I want to take her to a Dog Show but am not sure whether or not she is fit for the same. Can you please advise of the requirements of the Dog Shows.
Thanks in Advance
Mehran.
Hi Mehran,
You would recall that I had also mentioned that your pet has good size and confirmation. She has the correct coat type, good bone and fairly good fore & hind quarters. Yes! She does have a smaler than ideal head but that is common among Neapolitan's in India.
Judging from her condtion she doesn't require too much exercise. It is difficult for anyone to categorically say which type of food is better. However, commercial dog food is more balanced, home cooked food has to be supplemented with vitamins, minerals etc.....
You would never know her true quality till you see other Neao's at the show. So go for the GKC & KCI-FCI shows in December at Gurgaon and enjoy. Also try and get in touch with some expert breeders over the internet.
Hi Mehran, About the Dog Food, I feel it is more like a Myth and agenda build out of nothing- Its like people has been against Mc Donald's, KFC etc of the world. You can Definitely show you Dog in the show
Hi,
can you please suggest what would be considered a proper nutritious diet for her. As of now, i feed her 1/2 ltr of milk with 2 eggs and around 7-10 buscuits in breakfast, then rice/roti with chicken/mutton for lunch and dinner. Besides this, she has some choostix and Vitamin and Calcium tablets once in a day..
Is there anything better i can feed her?
hi Rana Sir/Sharat,
i have started feeding Royal Canin to Sasha again. i have noticed a change in her behaviour since then. She is becoming very hyper or you may say she shows a little more aggression e.g growling/barking. she has also started biting onto things like shoes, furniture again since she started eating the commercial food. i am not sure about the reasons for the above changes but the only difference in her daily routne i can recall is the change in her diet. Another change which i noticed in her is that she has started eating a lot which is not an issue as long as is doesnt create any health problems for her. i would say she eats around 1.5 Kgs of Royal Canin in a day. She has also started to drink a lot of water, she gulps down a full bowl of water in one go, however, she doesnt urinate as she used to... Can you please advise what can be the possible reasons for these changes.
It is always hard to answer questions of size with someone writing. As someone suggested you can enter in a show and see how she holds up. we all started somewhere and my first Mastino was only marginal in quality. Remember mass, wrinkle, head and the emotional impact the dog makes.
about size, my last 2 bitches I owned were about 160lbs when mature at 3-4 years old.
