In my view no. As being a big dog it does need space. It will also need some one with some experience to have a dog like this. Bull Mastiff pups can knock off things including kids while playing and unknowingly and hence need space and an apartment with a child may not be suitable for it.

In my view, English Mastiff are by and large inactive and prefer to be indoors. They are excellent watch dogs and get along well with kids. You do need to keep puppy and kids under supervision. Kids needs to be taught to respect the puppy, making sure they don't disturb the puppy when he's sleeping, making sure, during play, kids don't pull the tail or step on the paws of the pup. The bottom line is always keep the dog and kids under supervision.
Having said above, you need to know some important things about Bull Mastiffs:
1) Their pups have good appetite and eat good amounts.
2) Mastiffs drool a lot. Can you and your family tolerate that? Keeping a towel and cleaning their mouth regularly is the only rescue to this.
3) Mastiffs have very low life expectancy, they usually don't live more than 8 years.
4) These dogs tend to have joint problems and are usually unhealthy, meaning you may have to spend a lot of money on veterinary treatments.

Thanks for the inputs. During my research on the internet I read that the bull mastiffs are relatively inactive indoors and are good with children. They will do fine with long walks once a day and can be comfortable in homes without a lawn. I was not sure and that is why posted question in the forum.
I live on the ground floor in a duplex apartment. I am looking for a dog which will fulfill the following requirements:
1. Can live in an apartment
2. Can handle the Delhi weather
3. Should have basic guard instincts
4. Should be good with children who are 5 Plus
5. Needs less grooming
6. Needs moderate exercise ( 1 Long walk a day )

I had a Doberman dog earlier but that was like good 10- 12 years back.

Which dog breeds (small /medium/large) can be suitable for our family?

I will wait for some good suggestions from experienced dog handlers.
