We have seen people who have been unfair to dogs,as well as ones who torture and mistreat animals for no apparent reason.Unlike these people, there are a bunch of others who only think about the welfare of these people. These people do not wait for the Chandigarh UT administration’s headline. These dauntless heroes are from sector 33 Chandigarh namely Sarabjit Singh Baidwan, 60 along with others namely Gajender Singh Rana, 26, Rohit Sharma, 24 and Mukesh Kumar 25. These people feed the stray dogs and take them to the vet incase they are suffering from any disease. They also bury the dogs whose bodies remain unattended by the authorities.
Sarabjit, returned from Dubai one and a half years ago and has been living in Chandigarh since then near the Terraced Garden which is known to be a house of many stray dogs.
He always spends time with the dogs whenever he goes for a walk in the locality park.
According to Sarajit, all the calls he made to the helpline went unanswered and even when they seldom answered, they refused to come and take the dogs. This is when Sarbjit decided to help the dogs as much as he could without any government help.
“Last week, a dog was very ill. I kept calling the helpline for four days but I did not get any response. When the van finally came, the staff refused to take the dogs because they were in the garden and not the address they had received" said Sarabjit.
India needs people like these who work for the welfare of stray animals and the government should take this as a lesson to be more active in helping stray animals.
If you know people who have saved stray animals, then you can share their stories with us.
