Ah, there is one Bear Grylls and then there are these dogs. Survival stories are great to read. When they are of our cuddly little four-legged friends, we couldn’t be any happier. These pooches survived horrendous ordeals against all odds and as they say, where there is a will there is a way. These dogs sure found one. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
These dogs survived a massive fire at their Pennsylvania residence. The family and the fire department had given up any hope of finding them alive but a miracle happened as the dogs were found in a burnt-out room when the police returned to the scene the after the tragedy struck.
In another tear-jerking survival story; ‘Bailey’ the dog fell into a 200 feet deep clay mine whilst hiking with her human, Eric Storrs. She was rescued by two rescuers who were lowered into the mine to save her. Bailey and Eric were extremely happy to be reunited.
This eight-year-old Cockapoo was trapped under heavy concrete slabs in the woods near his home in Connecticut. The Firefighters were called upon for help and their heroics saved the day for their owners when they reunited little Frisco with his parents. No wonder why women fall for firefighters!
This little terrier mix was aboard a private plane with his human James Trefz when the aircraft crashed into the tree, killing James. Astonishingly, Zulu survived the crash unscathed and was found at the scene by the authorities.
This dog sure has the heart of a lion. He took five bullets in a break-in at his home in Orange County, California. Even his heroics were not enough as he was put on the kill list following his injuries. The rescuers were in awe of his will to live on and he was vigorously nursed back to health and was adopted into a new home. Hallelujah!
10. Little Pup
This little guy was hit by a train and was a bloody mess when an engineer, Fred Krause rescued the puppy nearing his death. But against all odds, the puppy not just survived but recovered from his gruesome injuries.
This “Man of Steel” was caged in steel with missing hair, fleas, and a broken leg. He was found in a dumpster by the authorities in Florida and was nursed back to health following a series of surgeries.
And the Oscar for the best true survival story goes to, well, Oscar. This pooch followed a scent that sent him tumbling 120 feet over a cliff. But this pup from Dorset, England survived with only a few scratches and a temporary limp in his leg.
This wolf-like dog was stuck and frozen on the railway tracks in Wisconsin, USA. Luckily, some construction workers spotted this lying heap of mess and called the police for help. The police pulled him free just a train passed on the same track. Lucky, you seem to have a very fitting name, man!
6. Miracle Puppy
This German Shepherd puppy was found in the aftermath of the terrible Hurricane “Katrina” that tore through New Orleans. This furry pup was found 71 days after the tragedy in a skeletal condition as it had gone more than two months without any food. In time, with proper care, nursing and love, he became healthy and was given a new home in Canada. Hurray!!
There is no doubt that Rita was kissed by fate itself. Rita was found in Romania in a miserable state as you can see above. She was rushed to the Maoland Shelter, run by a mother and daughter combo with little resources to speak of. The woman at Maoland Shelter recalls that they took Rita in with little to no hope of saving her but as fate would have it, this gem of a dog survived hunger, thirst and abuse and was flown to the UK when ‘K-9 Angels’ heard of Rita’s plight through a Facebook Page. She has responded well to the treatment and is growing for the better, who would have thought!
Murphy was hit by a car and had no pulse when his savior Cara Blake gave him CPR, literally giving more heartbeats to him. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent and extensive care.
Baltic was found 15 miles off the coast in Poland, frozen in the Baltic sea. He was noticed by a scientist from a ship and carried him overboard the ship he was on. The dog made a full recovery and was adopted by the same scientist.
Vernon was swept by the gushing water in the LA floods for an hour. His never say die attitude kept him alive during the ordeal and was finally saved when a firefighter reached to him by helicopter and plucked him out of the waters. More power the firefighters.
Conner Lamb carries Luna, a 1 1/2-year-old dog that fell off a fishing boat in February, after Luna arrived by a Navy commuter flight Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Naval Base Coronado in California. Luna was found Tuesday on San Clemente Island, a Navy-owned training base 70 miles off San Diego.
This naughty little female german shepherd fell off a fishing boat and was thought to have died after numerous failed search missions. In reality, Luna had swum two miles in the sea to a nearby island and survived the month with water pooled on the island from the last rains. Five weeks after the incident, the Navy spotted Luna whilst driving on the San Clemente Island. Luna and Nick, her human, rejoined and rejoiced the marvelous occasion. :) :)
