Abandoned Dogs Found Covered In Tar On Roof In New Jersey

27 Jul 2016 | by | Posted in: Wag News

It is extremely distressing when pets are left to fend for themselves and more so when left caged to die in the harsh weather conditions which they can’t escape! On one of the hottest days of the summer this Friday, the Associated Humane Society of Newark received a perturbing call about two dogs on a tarred rooftop. What they found is indeed overwhelming for dog lovers!

When the rescue team arrived at the spot, they found two dogs suffering from severe burns to the pads of their paws since the flat, tar rooftop in Newark where they were left abandoned was boiling and bubbling. The officers of Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter in New Jersey's largest city found a Pitbull and Yorkie “jumping and dancing” in a frenzy to prevent their paws from burning as temperatures soared to 96 degrees. Officers said the tar that covered the whole of the rooftop was bubbling, boiling and burning the incapacitated dogs.

The Yorkie continuously ran all over the roof in order to find a cool place to get relief from the scorching floor while the Pitbull, totally covered in hot tar, had almost given up hope. Trays of chicken legs and rice were kept on the roof for dogs but no man or caretaker of dogs was to be seen at the residence. There was not a drop of water in sight and doggy faeces covered the roof as well! Such was the lamentable state of the place where these poor dogs were forced to live!

Officers were able to remove the dogs and get them to an emergency veterinary hospital. From there, they were later taken to another clinic for continued recovery. The dogs suffered critical burns and their conditions are listed as guarded. They will be kept under supervision in the hospital under their condition improves and stabilizes.

The Humane Society said it got a message from a woman who said she owned the Yorkie but since she had to go out of town, she had entrusted the dog in another person's care. But the members of the society couldn't find the caretaker and also haven't been able to get back in touch with the woman claiming to own the dog. Investigators are now trying to ascertain who put the dogs out on the roof and exhibited such an irresponsible behaviour and will levy charges on the person found guilty of doing so.
