Dinesh and his pet cat Toony Tiger!

27 May 2013 | by | Posted in: Story from Pet Lover

“What greater gift than the love of a cat.” ― Charles Dickens

Adopting a pet is one of the most satisfying experiences. It is great to see how an animal slowly turns into a friend and then your best friend forever. Be it a puppy or a kitty (in fact be it any animal), treat them with respect, they truly deserve it. Shower your love and affection on them and it shall be returned in the form of a downpour of warmth, cuddles and loyalty.

But it is important to note that apart from all the fun and fervour, adopting a pet is a great responsibility, so prepare yourself. You have your life, your friends, your work and your weekends, but your pets only have you. Don’t devoid them of the happiness, the zeal and the endless pyaar.  There can be nothing more disheartening than getting a puppy and then abandoning it.

Read this fascinating tale with a twist of Dinesh and the muse, Toony Tiger.

Tell us the story of how you adopted your pet and from where.
“One fine evening, I was shopping at a supermarket when I saw a poster announcing that 6 kittens were up for adoption. The next day, I along with my niece and a friend met the guardian of those kittens. She had rescued the abandoned kittens and was taking care of them in the most loving manner. We all were amazed when out of the litter, one flaming orange fur ball (all of four weeks) walked right up to us, stroked against our legs and adopted us! That’s how he became our very own Toony Tiger.”

According to you, should people prefer adoption or buying pets? Why?
“Personally, I have nothing against buying pets, especially if they belong to established breeds. But adopting a pet has its own charm that is something uniquely personal and very special!”

Do you feel there is any difference in adopting a pet and buying a new born pup? In terms of behaviour and its care?
“No difference, really, since each one is a little bundle of joy and should be respected, loved and taken care without any reservations... as part and parcel of one's own family.

“Be a dog or a cat, JUST LOVE THEM for what they are, meet all their basic needs, and they will give you unconditional love for years to come!”

What do you feel should be done to encourage people to adopt pets?
“I think awareness campaigns that emphasize on the joy of nurturing a pet should help. Both the pros and cons of raising a pet at home should be shared, along with the health and well-being aspects.”

Lastly, share some interesting things about your pet and the relation you share with him/her.
“Being a professional cartoonist, I conduct cartooning classes for kids, and every single kid has fallen in love with Toony, who simply enjoys all the adulation and loves to pose as a model for our drawing lessons!

I love the way she twists, turns, squashes and stretches herself in endlessly creative ways... and it's always a delight to have her walk up and casually plop herself on you and curl up for a snooze, any time of the day or night! The love and trust is simply heart-melting.”
