Wag News, last updated 17th, Sep 2016, Abhinav Arora

Famous people have said famous things about dogs. But even quotes by regular people about regular dogs are infinitely profound at times. Dogs make a layman a genius, I guess. We will look at some of the same genius quotes in movies having our furry friends. These will make you laugh and cry, so get ready for the roller coaster.

1.  Turner & Hooch

No list of movies can be complete without having Tom Hanks in it. But it is not the actor who says the dialogue that turns it into gold; it is the dog’s (hooch) expressions. It goes like this:

Scott Turner: These are the simple rules. No barking, now growling, you will not lift your leg to anything in this house. This is not your room. No slobbering, no chewing, you will wear a flea collar. This is not your room. No begging for food, no sniffing of crotches, and you will not drink from my toilet. This is not your room.

2. K-9

This one is another classic dialogue and naturally, the dog’s expressions make it all the more worthwhile. The stage is set as the protagonist and the dog is trying to charm the same woman! Who wins? Well, let’s say it was a tie.

Dooley: Alright, let's get one thing straight: The woman is mine! Now we're both members of the animal kingdom. You know that and I know that. And we both know that this thing is really primal. So if you think you're such a badass you just try that one more time and you're gonna end up in a pet cemetery! You remember the movie Old Yeller? You remember when they shot him in the end? I didn't cry! Now come on!

3. My Dog Tulip

This is an animated movie but by no means is it for kids. It deals with the struggle of a lonely man and the comfort he finds in the company of his dog.

Narrator: A dog has one aim in life... to bestow his heart.

4. Dil Dhadakne Do

This deserves a special mention. This quote is not about a dog but by a dog himself. Well, voiced by Aamir Khan but hey, we can pretend if you can.

Pluto Mehra: Aaisa kyun hai ki jab koi saath hai toh insaan usse kitni baatein kehna bhool jaata hai ... aur aaisa kyun hai ki jab koi door chala jaata hai ... toh insaan ko kitni baatein yaad aati hai joh keh deni chahiye thi

5. Hachiko – A Dog’s Tale

This heartbreaking, tear jerking, pillow wetting movie is a story about a dog that waited for his human for nine years at the train station. The same spot where he always used to wait for him when he used to return from work. This quote sums up the essence of the movie for us:

Ronnie: I never met my grandfather; he died when I was just a little baby. But when I hear about him and Hachi, I feel like I know him. They taught me the meaning of loyalty. That you should never forget anyone that you loved. And that's why Hachi will forever be my hero.

6. Marley & Me

This is another gem of a movie describing the relationship between man and his best friend. The movie is based on true life events of John Grogan who archived it in a book. This quote from the movie is not just good but Goosebumps worthy:

John Grogan: A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.

7. My Dog Skip

If you don’t believe that having a dog in your childhood can make you a better person, then you should probably watch this movie and clear all doubts. This quote might also come in handy:

Narrator: Like all dogs, Skip was colorblind. He made friends easily with people of all races and origins. The town was segregated back then, but as we know, dogs are a whole lot smarter than people.

8. My Dog Skip

Here comes another quote from the same movie that would surely bring you to tears. The bond between a human and his dog is inexplicable, and the pain of losing your friend is beyond words. For some, the pain gets buried in their heart along with the memories they leave behind.

Narrator: Old Skip was eleven, and feeble with arthritis, but he never lost that old devilish look in his eye. He made my room his own. Came across an old photo of him, not long ago. His little face, with the long snout sniffin' at somethin' in the air. His tail was straight out, pointin'. Eyes were flashin' in some momentary excitement. He always loved to be rubbed on the back of his neck. And when I did it, he'd yawn and he's stretch, reach out to me with his paws as if he was tryin' to embrace me. I received a transatlantic call one day. 'Skip died,' my Daddy said. He and my mama wrapped him in my baseball jacket. 'They buried him out under our elm tree,' they said. That wasn't totally true. For he really lay buried in my heart.

9. Red Dog

Another Dog movie and another dog that literally went around the globe in search of his beloved human who died in a road accident. Red dog looked around for years only to find him in his last moment as he breathed his last near his human’s resting place.

Nancy: [to Red Dog] You stay, boy. You stay here. You're home now.

10. Marley & Me

John Grogan: Then I dropped my forehead against his and sat there for a long time, as if I could telegraph a message through our two skulls, from my brain to his. I wanted to make him understand some things.
You know all that stuff we’ve always said about you?” I whispered. “What a total pain you are? Don’t believe it. Don’t believe it for a minute, Marley.” He needed to know that, and something more, too. There was something I had never told him, that no one ever had. I wanted him to hear it before he went.
Marley,” I said. “You are a great dog.

We are sure our readers will have their own quotes to share with us. Perhaps, some may be from  the movies that we missed on the list or some of their own. Like we said in the beginning, a dog creates a genius out of a common man.

Cheers to that!
