Don't be confused while hiring a trainer

21 Jul 2010 | by Manoor | Posted in: Training

We all are confused or suffer when we wish to hire a right trainer to train our pet in major cities, so I would like to share the following for the benefit of the pet owners on how to chooses a right trainer for their pet;

a. Never blindly trust the referees which in most cases are the vet’s or other pet owners;

b. Checks the trainers credentials once you have invited him, if possible ask for their learning certificates or try talking to their teachers, always notice the body language;

c. Ask for their ways of training your pet; (- they will never give you step by step process… it will all be scattered all over)

d. A genuine trainer will never want to train your pet without you being present with them; (simple reason – the pet is to be controlled by you for their entire life, if you are not present at the training how will you bond with your pet on commands & how will your pet trust you when you give them the commands)

e. Training of any breed does not take more than a month (unless some special tricks are to be taught & for that you will need a specialized trainer), so any one who says 3months or more is fooling you robbing you of your hard earned money;

f. Check on their equipments & cleanliness of it & the trainer;

g. Never hire the trainer on the first day, keep them on trial for a week, if your pet will be happy to go out with the trainer (without him pulling your pet, chaining him etc)on the 2nd or 3rd meeting… you can give the trainer a shot, but you will have to keep an eye on the eagerness of your pet to go out with him every time;

h. Never let the trainer or as a pet owner never use a choke chain on your pet & only use a simple collar which will have the same effect on the pet as a choke chain. (they will tell you, that you can control you pet better only if he wears a choke chain, which is false & i assure you if it is a genuine trainer they will teach you to control you pet just by your own voice, nothing else is required. I can control any breed of dog on my voice command.)

These are the few things you can keep in mind before hiring a trainer.

No one will tell you these facts till to pay up, but because i have learn’t this i would like to share it with one & all for happy pets & betterment of the society.

Please note: Your pet should be trained after they are 3months old & before 8months old for best results. A older pet might take longer to be trained than mentioned above.

All the best to all!

Hi Scooby,

Thanks for agreeing, but i would like to request you not to look for a hostel to train your pet, as you must have read above you need to be present & work on the instructions of the trainer & train your pet yourself. That is the only correct way of training a pet. Find a good trainer in Chennai, if you were in Mumbai i could have done it for you. Hope i was of help & you can further connect with me for any assistance.

All the best!
