Finding Piya

10 Aug 2009 | by | Posted in: Grooming

15 years ago as we were driving home my husband spotted a little black-n-tan dachshund bounding along with his owner. We screeched to a halt. The moment is still as clear as if it were yesterday. The pup led us to his sibling Piya our miniature tan dachshund, who gave us great joy.

A fighter with a never-say- die attitude she survived a fractured cervical vertebra, kidney failure, an enlarged heart and eventually cancer with such good cheer  that she outlived most of her contemporaries. Ill health merely meant swallowing a few pills, seemingly easy but something highly objectionable to most dogs. Piya was more concerned with packaging - what the pills were stuffed into! Anything would be ok, from mithai to chicken mince. 15 years 3 months and 3 days was a pretty good innings. We lost her on 31st March this year.

We miss her and only now feel ready for another. If you know of a smooth dachshund puppy, preferably miniature, looking for a loving home do let me know. We live in Mumbai
