Nalasopara police filed the FIR after Wilson Bastin, 18 an eye witness to the accident reported the same.
Wilson Bastin works as a volunteer with an NGO that supports the well being of stray dogs. The injured dog was sleeping when Mr. Patil drove over him. When questioned, Wilson was threatened by the accused and also boasted on about the the political connections.
Due to the lack of knowledge about the sections under which the FIR has to be lodged, the police team took almost half the day to register the complaint. The FIR has been lodged under
Section 428 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) , Section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicle Act and Section 11(a) (treating animals cruelly) of the Prevention of cruelty to Animals Act.
