Pet lovers and owners in The Close - North, situated in Nirvana Country, Gurgaon under the banner of Pet Parents Association have taken on The Resident’s Welfare over dog poop fine clause while citing the Animal Welfare Board of India Circular that prohibits housing societies to form laws with regards to pets.
The Close - North, a gated community in Nirvana Country, had put up signposts and circulars which stated that pet owners will be fined heavily if the pets poop inside the premises, especially if not in the designated place.
Pet parents in The Close have demanded that the RWA removes the signboards that have been displayed across the society and also display the Animal Welfare Board of India’s circular across all notice boards present in all the towers.
According to the AWBI circular, the housing societies across the country cannot form laws with regards to pets. As per the circular, the RWA of housing societies cannot impose fines on pet owners or ask the pet owners to keep their pets on a leash when they go for a walk. Anjali Sharma, an executive committee member of AWBI had previously written to all RWA to ensure that the laws mentioned in the circular were upheld.
Pet Parents Association hopes that the move on RWA will increase awareness amongst the society’s residents and also the guards and support staff and the incidents of mistreatment and harassment of pet dogs and pet parents will be minimised.
If the RWA in your society has put in any circulars imposing fine or has taken special steps to make pet lovers comfortable, do write in to us!
