How To Take Care Of Your Dogs Paw

29 Oct 2017 | by | Posted in: Wellness

Dog paws are as vulnerable as human feet, and like ours, they need to be taken care of and pampered. An owner wouldn’t walk across a hot parking lot or a snow covered field without the proper protection on their feet. A paw pad needs to be checked for a myriad of issues that should be addressed, including nail length, cracked pads and foreign objects wedged in between paw pads. What are the possible medical-conditions related to PAWS?

1. Fungal Infections

Yeast organisms (fungi) are normally found on your dog’s paws, but an underlying condition can cause them to multiply and cause problems. Licking excessively is a tell-tale sign of a yeast infection.

2. Ingrown Toenails

Nails that are not trimmed properly or naturally worn down by walking outside can become painful ingrown toenails.

3. Ticks

One of the more common places we find ticks hiding is between the toes

4. Hairy Feet

Dogs with lots of hair on their feet can catch gum, sticky asphalt, burrs and thorns in crevices, which can be hard to find and painful to remove.

What Precautions can be taken on a Daily-basis?

  • Be Careful with Floor Cleaners

It's not only bad for their pads but it could also lead to anther tricky situation, dogs tend to lick their feet when they are wet. if your pet ends up swallowing such harmful chemicals it could have adverse effect on it's health.(Make sure, you keep the pupper away when cleaning the floors)

  • Examine Paws After Walks

You’ll want to be aware of what your dog is walking on, but to be just a little more careful, try to make it a point that yp=ou check their paws post-walk. If in case, your puppy ends up stepping on thorns, or any sort of sharp object, watch out for bleeding. Until you don't get some medical help, make sure to apply pressure to help stop the bleeding.

What are the Natural Way to Maintain Paws?

  1. Water + Apple Cider Vinegar:

Add up to 2 tablespoons for every three cups of warm water, and then pour this solution into a spray bottle and lightly mist each paw. Just remember that apple cider vinegar can sting existing cuts, so dilute further if that seems to be happening.

2. Aloe Vera

Pads do crack and bleed if they get too dry. Don't use human lotion on their pads, it may soften pads too much and lead to more issues. Aloe-Vera will work well as a lotion for pad-massage.
