Oklahoma City Police K9 Officer, Kye, a 3 year old German Shepherd, was laid to rest with full honours at a Funeral Service attended by more than 1000 people and dozens of service dogs.
Kye’s partner Sgt Ryan Stark who has been serving on the Oklahoma City Police Department’s K9 unit expressed his grief and bid a final farewell to his loyal friend before his flag draped coffin was buried and the canine was given out a 21 gun salute.
Kye was seriously injured after he was stabbed multiple times while helping his partner Sgt Ryan Stark to catch a knife wielding thief. Sgt Stark was responding to a stolen car report where a 22 year old suspect had led the police officers on a car chase before crashing the vehicle in a ditch and running off on foot. Kye chased after the suspect but was unfortunately stabbed multiple times. Kye succumbed to his wounds a day after he was stabbed. Kye’s bravery saved Sgt Stark’s life for which he will remain in Kye’s debt forever.
It is heartwarming to read about how dogs make our lives better. We at DogSpot believe that all dogs who have served mankind even in the slightest way - whether they are service dogs, guide dogs or therapy dogs - should be bid adieu with love and respect. They have made our lives whole with their unconditional love and a thank you is the least we can do to express our gratitude.
