The plush beautiful green park of Lodhi Gardens, New Delhi has a special security force, and it's a furry tail wagging one! A one of it's kind project that was started by New Delhi Municipal Corporation was started a while back where about 15 stay Indian Dogs were trained and deputed in the park for security purposes.
The stray dogs have been trained and can now be spotted in the Lodhi Garden. All the dogs are sterilised and vaccinated. The trainers have groomed the dogs and taught them discipline. The dogs can be spotted in the Lodhi Garden from 7 am onwards. New delhi Municipal Corporation aims to expand the project to other parks and gardens.
For its novel idea, the council had put its best foot forward and the dogs have been trained by the best dog trainers. “These dogs have been training for quite some time now. The first step was to make them friendly with the guards. It took us time to explain to them that they shouldn’t run in and out of gardens. It was a task to make them stay put in one area. I have been a trainer for more than two decades. Stray dogs are more street smart, so that has its own perils. They learnt new tricks faster,” said a trainer, who has also been training dogs for the Special Protection Group.
