Lucknow Dog Show-2008

10 Nov 2008 | by Rana Atheya | Posted in: Events

Show Date: 9th Noveber 2008

This weekend I was at Lucknow show. I remember going to Lucknow a long time back, for the show. I believe it’s been 10 years now I went to Lucknow for the Dog Show, it used to be in Hockey Ground then. This year (2008) the Show held in the Police Ground- a large green field area.
The Lucknow Show has achieved to be one of the few pointed shows in North of India and so has privileged to get entries from all over the place. The show was decently managed. The ground was not at all congested.
The show was tilted towards couple of few breeds; media was all over the Afghans, Standard Poodle, Wire Haired Fox Terrier, Kerry Blue etc. These dogs have not bred in India- Directly imported along with their Handlers and Groomers. People may have known through the national Dailies in Lucknow that the dog game has gone towards the imports and of course money spinners. Times of India- Lucknow has three photos: 1) the Fox Terrier 2) Afghan Hound 3) The Standard Poodle, all imported and the article says:
“The cost of the Poodle could not be ascertained as some said that it was available for Rs 25 lakhs while others claimed that it costed even more.”These imports (Dog, Groomer and Handler) performed the high class, professional Dog Grooming and Dog handling.
I guess if this continues for few more years it will do the following:
• Will make Dog Grooming more professional and a separate line of healthy business.
• Dog Show handling will get more professional, people may start coming well dressed, like Crufts and Westminster
• The dog game may become one-sided, people having good money to spare for imports will win. This may discourage many common dog lovers to show their dogs.

Last but not the least: The show was rich with beautiful Doberman, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Boxers, Pugs, Rottweiler etc. There were Dog Show enthusiasts coming all the way from down south and Far East (West Bengal).

I was at the Show ground till 18:00 hrs. could not catch up with the
