My German shepherd is very weak and thin. Suggest me what to feed him to attain ideal weight.

I have 15 Months old German shepherd. I use to feed him with milk and rice 3 times in a day and give him 1 or 2 boiled eggs daily. I also give him calcium tablets. He is very thin underweight what should i feed him so that he can attain ideal weight.

Hi ShadaabThe diet you are feeding to your dog is not nutritionally balanced to provide your dog a proper growth. It is advisable not to feed the dog with milk as the dog are lactose intolerance. That means they are not able to digest properly the lactose sugar present in milk. So if you’ve ever noticed your dog use to develop gas or loose stools after having milk, there’s a good chance your pet may be suffering from this condition. Feed you dog with some packed dog food is advisable by my side. It saves lot of time of cooking and they are balanced and complete. So if you dog is taking up proper quantity of food according to the body weight you do not need to feed him any thing else. You only need to store the food. It also keeps the teeth and gums of the dog healthy. However If you want to feed him home made dog food talk to some dog nutritionist. Dog nutritionist will help you with some recipe that you can cook at home and can offer your dog a proper diet.

I have a 11 months GSD who hates packaged food. We tried everything - royal canine, pedigree, drools, packed chicken - but he doesnt like anything. We feed him twice a day with a mixture of rice/roti, chicken stock, chicken liver/gizzard/Eggs (usually 2 eggs at a time) and milk. We occasionally give him boiled vegetables. He is healthy and ideal weight. You can try that too.More than anything, he loves milk. Even if he isnt in a mood to eat, he finishes the milk. If your dog is intolerant, you can try curd instead of milk. You can give him vitamin supplements to ensure proper growth.
