Is it normal or should I do anything to make him drink?

Hi all, my 8 mnth old gsd is growing fine..but the problem is he is veryt relactant to drink water...I am worried as he may get dehydrated as shimla has a very dry weather during winters...he eats his meal properly but doesnt bother to drink water...the only time he will drink water is after a long play session/free run... Is it normal or should I do anything to make him drink?

He is on home made diet...he eats twice a day...he gets either rice+roti+chicken+chicken soup/egg+some veggies or instead of non-veg some paneer/cheese/curd/nutrinugget s

Nothing to worry as long as fresh clean water is always available to him. Also try and replace the water a couple of times in the day by luke warm water.

yup, nothing to worry. He's already getting soup etc. If he were on a dry commercial dog food, then he would have required more water.

It is not necessary that he wud drink the luke warm water, but what happens in the hills as I stay in the hills too, is that the water can get freezing cold and at times even freeze depending on the temperature.

Yes, I got your point....but generally I do check the water temp. At solan though the temp may be low but its never that low that the water will freeze.
I gave him luke warm water yesterday....he smelled it & made a funny face as if saying "Now, what the hell is wrong with the water!!!" (I laughed for 10 min after seeing him)
Anywayz, I guess he gets enough liquid from his meals....so I guess there is nothing to worry about...

dogs drink a lot when fed on dry/kibble asit has no mositure..when fed home made or raw they get water from it..so nothing to be alarmed.. if you still feel he is drinking less add a tspn of glucon D in the water.
