Our female laborador after she littered 5 pups after this it became dull, no appetite to eat, help?

Dear Sir, Our female laborador after she littered 5 pups, fell ill after some 4 or days approx. became dull, no appetite to eat. So we got worried and took her Animal Rescue home in Goa where vets are there who treat such dogs. They gave her drips for about an hour and told us to give Ondem-4 mg. Taxim and syrup Liv-52. But she showed no signs for improvement. so then we took her to Govt. vet who gave injection neo-hepatex - 2 ml for about 3 days and told us to Give Ostovet, Liv-52 syr. and Dependal but still no signs of improvement. The dog has no appetite to eat rice but loves to eat chicken, fried fish we try to mix in the rice but she is very selective and only eats the fish and chicken and leave the rice without gulping. Then somebody told us to go to another Vet who gave B-complex injections. We are worried as the dog after eating either vommits or passes loose liquid stools etc. and now we are afraid that they she may get dehydrated as she is loosing lots of weight. She is already half the original size. So in dogspot we wrote about this problem, so were told to give her yoghurt which she refuses to eat by herself we have to open her mouth and force her to swallow the yoghurt. Now she is no longer active and timid. Can anybody suggest what is a good remedy for her to recover. Regards Celes

HI CELES SOMETIME FEMALE AFTER DELEIVERY STOP EATTING FOOD ITS NATURAL. YOU VET GAVE BEST MEDICINES. BUT REDUCE INJECTIONS AND GIVE ONLY ORAL LIV-52 AND B-COMPLEX(LIKE COBADEX SYP) ONLY. DON'T WORRY IT WILL WORK. I M FROM PHARMACEUTICALS I AM WITH GLAXO SO JUST TRY IT.

This is called 6th day syndrome. I dont think many have heard about it.

Were you there when she delivered. It is caused by retained placenta. Each puppy should be followed by a placanta. Do not breed this bitch again as the problem will repeat itself. Caused by a small vulva. I guess puppies came without the water back.

Its not so bad. The vet will have to treat with saline & metrizodale (check spelling) drug intravenously for few days. You may have to bottle feed your puppy until the mother recovers. Technically you can give flagyl 800 mg in the morning and evening for 5 days which does the same trick.

Vit B complex or 12 would not work in this instance as your dog is having a severe infection. What these vitamins do is that they encourage your dog eat temporarily thus expanding the stomach. After you stop in 10 days your dog will eat alot to satisfy the fullness it takes to fill the expanded stomach.

Hope this helps
