Is American pit bull terrier a family dog?

Hi everyone, I am planning to get a puppy, but I am a little bit confused after what I have heard and read on internet about American pit bull terriers. Can anyone who is having pit bulls please suggest me honestly, is it okay to have a pit bull terrier in a family having small kids? expert opinions will be highly appreciated. socialise properly and no issues at all. do not keep the pup chained. the more freedom he has more respectful and understanding he will turn out. all depends how you socialise him.

If you have not kept big dogs before, I will not advise this breed. (although they are not that big but still) It is not a breed for first time dog owners. Always do your research on the net and speak to people who know about dogs. I personally would not advise any dogs if you have small kids in the house. Even the friendly lab can unknowingly hurt a small child. A pup needs a lot of time for training, socialisation etc. Wud you be having that time ......
