Home made food is more economical and there are evidences that the dogs in 1980's lived minumum 14 years by surviving with home made food, now because of commercial packaged food the life span of dogs slightly came down. A curd rice, egg fried rice, rice with chicken and panner, chappatis, breads almost enough for the dogs to lead healhly life.

I totally agree. We always had big dogs like GSD,doberman and small ones like pom and spitz at home while growing up but there was no need for outside food.Though we gave only eggs besides home cooked food as no nonveg was allowed they all had a good life span and were healthy.Even now , my mom gives Ragi chappati (rich in calcium) instead of any other calcium source and the Dog is in good shape

Hi Kamal. I'm feeding 50gm boiled chicken ( bone-less ) to my 8 month old Labrador (daily basis). Is this quantity sufficient? I also mix rice ( kichri type). Could you tell me in what quantity one should be feeding this on a daily basis? He weighs just below 25 kg. Also, according to many people I 've been in touch with, whether it's Indian or imported pedigree, Labrador weight must not exceed beyond 35 kg. What's your take on it?

Hi Navjot,
I too see many labradors below 35 kgs, but onething is sure, if you get labrador from Mr.Anil Tiwari, then the minimum adult weight is 40 Kgs, Bruno is now 43 Kgs, Mr.Anil has nice lab bloodlines and Bruno is the puppy of Anil's NICO, you can check Bruno's father pics in https://labradors.in/nico.html

Regarding feeding for your lab, it is always advisable to add yogurt/curd in his diet, this improves digestion. The quantity of food should be 2-3% of body weight, you can also give him egg fried rice, the more oil good for skin and ghee is very good for dogs (my vet told this), curd rice also good if you give him atleast 150gm of chicken daily.

The pics are cool, Kamal. Yes, am feeding egg and yogurd on daily basis. I've all most phased commercial food out of his diet. And I have RC just as a back up now. He also likes carrots, patatoes, apples. But, I give these in comparatively less quantity. Chicken& rice, egg and curd are now the main items in his diet chart.

I will suggest Drools large breed puppy is made up with high quality ingredients including chicken and egg for better growth , Drools also contains precisely balance levels of calcium, phosphorus, protein and fat to help promote bone growth, it also contain natural sources of glucosamine to support healthy joints stressed by a labradors puppy growth and weight....
