There is a difference between a watch dog and a guard dog.

The main concern here should be the diseases/ infections that a dog can pick up from wild animals like the Jackal including rabies etc. It wud be better if the goats are locked up in an enclosed pen area where the Jackals cannot get in at night.

Generally sheepdogs would be a better option, but as long as you have a couple of dogs barking, the jackals shud stay away and the best watch dog plus the hardiest dog is our own indian dog/ stray. So go adopt a couple of pups from a shelter and bring them up with the goats and they will treat them as their pack and watch over them.

begal??? you mean to say beegle? the breeds like beegle, great dane are costlier and also needs some maintenance, the best suggestion what I saw here in Mr.Dinkar comment is to get some pariah/mongrels, let them grow along with goats and it will be the perfect watch dog. That was really a nice idea....

simple answer watch dog is different from guard dogs any dogs can be watch dogs
can alert with barking and stuff but they cant be guard dogs are different which were bred to be intimidating with structure good temperment dobermann or gsd will do you for your needs both are cheap be cautioned dont buy doberman from anyone there is tons of badbreeding with inbreeding it those dogs are very very dangerous and generally doberman are very sensitive dogs so better of with german shepherd if you are a first time dog owner and then also gsd needs a lot of grooming and if you can pay more get a rott which also is not suggested for first time dog owner i can prefer you with indian breed named RAJAPALYAM will do best for your needs which is cheap a hunting dog and best instincts of a fighting dog breed
