a labrador is a very affectionate dog, barking at strangers is unlikely, usually they greet all strangers with a wagging tail, as for being afraid he may be a shy type it is best that you start socializing him with more people.. if you are looking for a watch dog labs are no good, i have labs they will allow anyone into the house, well once he growled really badly when an electrician raised his voice against my mom, and whenever he sees that guy he growls.

U r asking a child to do a man's job. Do u think its fair. Ur dogs is just a pup. There is a difference between a watch dog and a guard dog. If trained properly ur lab too can be a watch dog and bark at strangers.

I'm agree with Mr. Dinkar & Hameed. Labs r not guard dog. they r so friendly that they allow anyone into house. esp. ur pup is too small to bark at strangers. Just train him well, it will do.

If you want a dog that should bark at stangers, then you would have consider the breeds like lhasa apso, dachshund, or even indian breeds like rajapalayam, mudhol hound etc... labrador is a family dog which likes to greet everyone with his cute wagging tail. What Mr.Dinkar and Hameed said was true, you need to give training to your labrador for watch dog, there are also some cases I heared that the strangers/thieves can easily convince labrador by just giving him a tennis ball to play.

if you are thinking he wil bark to a stranger so forget it as they just love never guard and they bark only when you tie them or when they want food never to guard you

I dont agree with some ppl here, i also have a male golden lab and my brother has a black female lab, they both bark at strangers speacially my labrador is not friendly towards strangers, he already attakced a few ppl who wanted to walk in my yard thinking its just a labrador it wont do anything, you can train your dog to bark at strangers bcos not every labrador will do that natrually.
