I would certainly not recommend GSD. They are basically guarding dogs and require a fair amount of training. Also need to be careful with kids in initial months. You can go either for Lab or beagle, both are of mild temperament, good with kids and easy to train. Depends on your preference for size and space availability.

Beagle. Lab is also good but will be big sized dog requiring more space and exercise. GSD, not unless you have some experience as a dog owner.

i think lab is best. Please note that pet parenting is some how difficult and you have to devote time and some money on them to enjoy trouble free life.apart from cost paid to breeder, there are annual vaccination cost (double in first year), daily food (first year food is much costly as home food not suitable for them) and home for puppy. But Labrador is much easier friendly and intelligent. Certainly Lab are not good guard dog as GSD. Beagal is certainly not for first timer. Bring any dog but confirm atleast 5-6 week mother feed ans one week saperation life at breeder home so that home sickness dont occur while change in home.
