How to handle stray dogs when going for a walk with my pet dog?

How to handle stray dogs when going for a walk with my pet dog? I have used stick but only some stray ran away but some don't. There are also some cases where i hear growling sound/sound bark from some stray dog when i show stick. Its too scary for me to take my pet for walk.

Simple. Carry some Parle glucose biscuits. Chuck them to these dogs especially the more fierce ones. They will soon be very friendly and protective of your pet. I do not carry a stick when I take my Bozo for a walk. I use this trick and they are more than ready to try to even give a "mooch" to Bozo if not play with it. Soon the strays will not mind if no treat has been given to them. But then do give them once a while.

Hi Kamal, stray dogs consider you and your dog as an intruder, that's why they bark at you. You can intimidate 2-3 dogs with a stick but if it's a pack of 5-6 dogs then they may overpower you. Trying to passify them is a good idea. This will leave an impression on them that you and your dog are not intruders but friends.

Hi,
My bro also had the same problem in his area with his dog...I stayed with him for few days so before i could take the dog for his walk i made frnds with the stray dogs by giving them somethings to eat and gaining their trust. Then they started listening to me...believe me it wont take more than 2 visit alone to gain their trust if you know how to treat them, Later I took my dog with me and it wasnt like a 1st instance getalong but the sray dogs related to me as a frnd and payed heed to my commands and VOILA no issue there onwards...hope this helps

Controlling the aggressiveness in your puppy is your problem. You need to train it to behave. Teach it do heel walking and whenever it "bounces" at the stray dogs, command it to heel. Do not ever let your pet dog to lead or drag you. It must walk side-by-side or a step behind you unless it wants to go for nature call. For your own good and for your family's sake you must knock out the alpha behavior in your pet. Carry a role of newspaper with you. Whenever it strays from you or bounces or snarls give it a light tap with the newspaper roll on its rear with the command "heel". Or better still train it at home before taking out for long walks. But please never beat it. Be very patient.

Hi,
What you can do is firstly I am against hitting dogs or harming them physically cos u need to be the ALpha leader not because you can overtake the dog physically but you have to prove yourself as a good leader in a calm assertive way. Start with training him to "sit" then "down" and "stay" once your dog learns these command you can use these commands to distract them while walking outside using the command "SIT". Stay command is a life saver if you can master ur dog in this area then you can save him from getting distracted and running unknowingly towards a speeding car. I hope you agree with me.
The reason why I am against hitting dogs because when he will grow up and if he is high energy dog with leadership quality he will challenge you if in front of a female dog(bitch) or even your family members like when you are not at home and any of your family member asks ur dog to do something or trying to put on the leash(classic case) he might snap and having a large dog snapping is not good. Thats why we have so many cases where the dog respects the owner but atleast 20%-30% dogs have bitten as puppy or when grown up one of the family member.
Hope this helps and others agree with me.
"Dog with out human intervention would bite and correct each other. As humans we cant do that and also the dogs knows we arent the same specie but they are ready to accept us"
