My 10 month old Labrador is not taking food properly. What should I do to feed him?

We have a 10 months old choco lab named as "CHAN". He has been recently diagnosed for gastritis. Vet has prescribed PAN 40 and Zinetac. The problem is, he is not taking any solid food for the past one week. But he is active. We are feeding him buttermilk, milk, ice cream, Almond resin, grapes etc., He usually loves his kibble, we have tried many things like rice and boiled egg, rice and boiled chicken but now he comes to his bowl, sniff and runs away. These were all his favorite food. The vet says it is usual that during summer, the pup which experiences the first summer will find hard to take up any food. Since we are having a dog for the first time, we are very much worried. Please help.

Hi Balamurugan

Gastric issues are common in puppies and must be handled with care. First of all, please do not feed Chan buttermilk / milk / curd or any milk based product as it will increase the gasstric problems for Chan. Secondly, almond / grapes / raisins are an absolute no no for dogs. All forms of pine nuts - cashews / almonds / pistachio are an absolute no for dogs or puppies.

If Chan is not having food, try adding boiled chicken / boiled egg whites / boiled vegetables to the kibble. Do make sure that Chan drinks a lot of water and stays indoors away from the heat.

Regards

try not to give ur pet resins and grapes. they are not good for health and also try avoiding sweets. if u are giving him chicken or boiled eggs or vegetables .. try mashing it to a lil paste and coax him to come to the bowl or you could try feeding him the first bite with ur hands and then he can continue from the bowl until he starts eating for a few days. Please ensure clean drinking water daily for him. may b u could try adding the chicken chunks for puppies from pedigree to his meal to make it more appetizing but not everyday. Please check with the doctor if your pup can be given supplements of digyton and liv 52 for pets. you get the same in Himalaya stores or at the vet
