Dog Treats

If the quantity mentioned above is not sufficient than how much should I feed him.?

I have been feeding my 6 weeks old stray pup 2 spoons of 50:50 mix of CERLAC and SAMOLAC, 4 times a day. 1. Is the quantity sufficient, I ask because he eats like as if there won't be no tomorrow. Is it advisable to slow down his eating speed. 2. If the quantity mentioned above is not sufficient than how much should I feed him. 3. At what age should I switch over to solid food. 4. I tried giving him Royal Canin for weaning puppies mixed in curd along with his usual diet, but later in the evening I noticed his stomach was sort of bloated and hard. So I stopped fearing that he may be having tough time digesting it. 5. I am also self training him, and as for now I am giving him RC as a treat, which is never more than 12 pebbles of Royal Canin, owing to the problem I faced earlier. Can someone suggest me something better. Please note that I cannot prepare non-veg food at home so I would appreciate if treats can be some sort of vegetarian concoction. 6. Can someone suggest a good & balanced daily veg diets for a pup which can be continued even as pup grows. 7. When we brought him home he had quite a lot of ticks & fleas on him. We used anti-flea shampoo on him twice on two consecutive Sundays along with Notix twice in a week. Now the problem is his skin looks quite dry. Can someone suggest some home remedy to improve his skin condition. I tried to browse through many books available at the stores but all of them speak about pedigree dogs and mostly about training them none to satisfy my queries related to raising the pups. I am reading "Puppies for dummies" right now and also on look out for something better. However I do not want to experiment on my pup till I educate myself enough to take care of him properly, therefore I seek advice from all of you experienced fellow "dogspotians" to help me out with my queries. Regards.

Sandy : Has the pup being de wormed, or else whatever it eats would go to worms ? Break down the quantity and feed him maybe 5 times by increasing the content by 25% more and gradually increase it as weeks pass…after eating a pups should never have a balloon like stomach as if it is gonna blast, it should be slightly big.

2. If the quantity mentioned above is not sufficient than how much should I feed him.
Sandy : increasing the content by 25% more and gradually increase it as weeks pass…after eating a pups should never have a balloon like stomach as if it is gonna blast, it should be slightly big.

3. At what age should I switch over to solid food.
Sandy: What do u mean by solid food elaborate ?

4. I tried giving him Royal Canin for weaning puppies mixed in curd along with his usual diet, but later in the evening I noticed his stomach was sort of bloated and hard. So I stopped fearing that he may be having tough time digesting it.
Sandy: whenever u give RC u should have water available. Don’t try too many combinations of food stick to a standard diet.

5. I am also self training him, and as for now I am giving him RC as a treat, which is never more than 12 pebbles of Royal Canin, owing to the problem I faced earlier. Can someone suggest me something better.
Sandy : Yeah continue with that, actual training can start after 2 months
Please note that I cannot prepare non-veg food at home so I would appreciate if treats can be some sort of vegetarian concoction.
6. Can someone suggest a good & balanced daily veg diets for a pup which can be continued even as pup grows.
Sandy : I would consider egg as a veg … so boiled vegetables + 2 eggs boiled + jiggery + rice should be good.
You should also give him multi vitamin supplements as the diet is in complete

7. When we brought him home he had quite a lot of ticks & fleas on him. We used anti-flea shampoo on him twice on two consecutive Sundays along with Notix twice in a week. Now the problem is his skin looks quite dry. Can someone suggest some home remedy to improve his skin condition.
As long as there is no dandruff and no itching it is fine…if it is still there after 2-3 weeks then give nutria coat 2-3 ML every day.

Thanks a lot sandy for your invaluable help, it is much appreciated.
1. Yes my pup has had a dose of de-wormer about 2 weeks back, but I do take him for walks outside (as he poops outside) and play in the adjacent park, where during course of play or otherwise he tend to carry the leaves or chew on the grass. What are the chances of worms getting back into his digestive system?

2. I have increased his diet by a spoon every alternate meal, ie; now he gets 2 spoons in the afternoon and night while 3 spoons in the morning and evening, since he's most active during those periods. Plus he gets a pebbles of Royal Canin in the evening for each successful "Come" command. His stomach doesn't look bloated up anymore even after his meals.

3. By solid food I meant giving him things like Chapati or some other form of food as suggested by you. I don't want to raise him up solely on ready made food. When (at what age) should I start introducing those items to his diet, and how long should I continue feeding him Cerelac.

4. Water is always available to him but he doesn't seems to drink too much. I even tried giving him some warm water but still the same. He doesn't like to drink much I guess.

5. Supplements I am giving him are 1/4 of a calcium tablet, about 1ml of "PET SPARK" multi-vitamin and about 1ml of "DIGYTON" for digestion every day as suggested by the vet.

6. Mostly there is no itching but at times he does chases his tail and sort of chew on it, and also scratches his lower stomach. I checked it for any infestation but did not find any. My assumption is that it could be because of some scratching from the grass during play. I applied some coconut oil on his bottom which he promptly licked off.

7. Sure will add nutria coat to his diet soon. I have uploaded his picture as a profile image for reference.

As Julius Ceaser said "Experience is the best teacher" to which I would like to add "In Dog Spot I Trust".
Regards.

- Deworming it evrey month until 6 months or as advised by your doc, 1 tablet =10kg bodg weight so give the dosage as per weight. Dogs have a mechanism of cleaning their stomach by eating grass, leaves etc so if it is ok, but anything else....best would be to train the dog not to eat anything while it is out, this can be accomplished through training
- there is no standard quantity for diet so whatever u give souldnt blow the stomach
- after 3-4 months, best would be boiled vegetables + eggs + milk, some dogs may be alergic to wheat or grain products as they r not built for that so observe the dog after giving chapatis for signs of bad stool, itching etc, if fine u can continue with it
- thats ok alwasy have it available it will take when needed
- ok continue with that supplements and gradually increase the calcium intake ( max 20 ml per day for 3 months)
- thats ok
- Pet spark and nutricoat r the same i think, please check the content it would be omega based

feed free to add any more questions u have..we willl be happt to answer, good to see a responsible pet owner like u..!!
