Please let me know if I should retain this trainer or train dog myself?

I have employed an obediance trainer for my LAB.Its been 2 months of training but he doesnt respond to any of the family members. He only obeys his teacher. When I shared this with the trainer he said that this is because we love him too much Today since I had given him a bath , his choke collar was wet and he was wearing his body belt when the trainer came. After 10 Min the trainer told me that today my Dog is not in the mood to obey any command at all.I realized that it is the choke chain which makes him do things Please let me know if I should retain this trainer or train him myself. Though I am a working woman , I can spare time in the morning before my office Looking forward to helpful advice

Hello mam, I am not a trainer but have some experience with dogs. First i used to get the thing in hand which the dog like most.(in my case i use padigree in my pocket).
Make the dog do the trick and then praise him and give him a treat. Play games like hide and seek, fetch. These are games which bring lot of positive behavior in them.
This technique helps me a lot and may work for you too.

first and foremost dont pay him money ...then the dog will listen to u...

any trainer should condut training in u r presence and repeat the comands when u r there and tune the dog to u and show u the tricks...

yes mam mr. sandy is very correct. previously i had a trainer who told us that during the training, no family member can see the dog. and we were inexperienced so we obliged. later we came to know that he used to be harsh on the dog and my dog grew very scared and was not listening to us. then i switched the trainer. now i can visit my dog when his training is going on. and whatever he learns, we make him practice that. my dog listens to me but is not so obedient to the other family members. the thing is whats the point in training your dog if he doesnt listens to you. so make it a point to see what is he learning. ask your trainer to perform the training in your presence. this is very important. also you must see whether your dog is enjoying his training sessions and physical abuse like beating is not employed on him. becoz otherwise your dog will develop behaviorial probs and may turn aggressive.

Ok,

Firstly Dogs needs training only after 1 year or so unless you wann prepare a show material instead of Pet.Puppies needs to be socialized from young age for that after 6 months if you take a walk then it will get that. Now if you wann dog to listen to everyone of your family then any one of you or you take an initiative and train the dog with your family member one by one and repeat the process unless the dog knows he has to obey the command of everyone. No trainer can establish it unless you guys do this as a routine work everyday.

Dogs observer always what and how and when the human reacts. So you need to have excellent patience in dog training.Dog will learn quick but some dogs are so stubborn like Bulldog, they are very smart but to train them you need to have soooooooo much patience. They will never want to do any tricks at all whatever way you do to please them so you have to do training everyday and one day he will get that and will mark you for.Labs are quick and easy learner so why u need a trainer for ? Check,Read your dog and write it down what it does and try to adapt those techniques in training.

When he does obey ur orders just do not shout at him or show ur aggression just be cool. show calm assertiveness or just do not look at ur dog or talk once he realizes that u r not responding to him just you can give him the commands u want with calm assertiveness. To train the dogs treats are very effective medium use that trick and don't give him the treat until he obeys.

Las are one of the easiest dogs to train. I suggest that you change your trainer. If you will like to train him yourself, there are excellent books and videos that will aid you in your training.
