You should keep a dog that suits your lifestyle. If you are not very active, don't go for long walks, prefer to use personal vehicles for short distances, you shouldn't keep active dogs that belong to working group like Lab, GSD, Rott, etc. You are better off keeping Pub, Lhasa Apso, Cocker Spaniels, etc.
If you keep a Labrador but you hardly take the dog out for long walks, don't let the dog run and chase toys, then you are not doing justice to this breed!! Every breed was bred for a purpose, Labs were bred to swim, GSD's were bred to work with shepherds, rotties were bred to do multiple tasks like pulling carts. You need to read the history and origin of the breed before you consider any.
