I am looking to get a Sable German Shepherd pup,is the KCI registration an important/mandatory thing ?

Hello people, I am from Delhi and looking to get a Sable German Shepherd pup. I would like to know where to get good quality pups (no intentions of breeding or showing off. I just want to get good pedigree so as to avoid any health problems or temperament issues.) So kindly guide me to how/where to get the latest member of my family. I will be visiting this site and asking you guys for more questions after I get my pup. And any idea how much will a good German Shepherd pup cost ? And is the KCI registration an important/mandatory thing ? I can spend enough time and resources for this new entry in my family now, so that will not be a problem. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks :)

You can contact any pet shop you know nearby to your place. He would definitely recommend one or 2 breeders of GSD. A show quality GSD pup of good bloodline would cost approx 25K. A normal KCI regd pup would cost you anywhere between 15 - 18K. It is not mandatory to have a registered PUP but there is a huge difference between a regd and non regd pup. Regd PUP wpuld be free of unethical breeding and would not carry a diluted bloodline if carefully chosen.

If you are planning to show your DOG in dog shows affiliated to KCI , then it is mandatory to have a KCI regd PUP. You can search for GOOD PUPs in the very same site under Puppies available and select one.

Well no way you are gonna get sable pup in anyshow lines and stuff i have no intrest in show lines and i dont suggest you to buy one since i can describe the show dog as HALF DOG AND HALF Frog better go for working lines pretty hard to get in india but search for guy in our dogspot named DASHMANA he can help you getting one good working bloodline pup and i will not recommend it to you if it is your first dog . I can guarentee show lines have tons of health problems Cost prolly will be around 30 K i think if direct import if not you can get from 20 K
not rly exact rates but thats approx :)

Actually i have got a kennel nearby my place, and i am visiting them tomorrow. They are giving the pup for less than 10K. I am sure it wont be a KCI registered pup, so will ask them tomorrow. The PUP is 38 days old as of now. When should i bring it home ?

I called up another kennel (KCI registered) kennel, and they said they will arrange an import/champion pup for around 15k.

Any suggestions ?

I am not interested in any show line pup or sumthing. I need a dog coz i love to have one. Its just that a good pedigree dog is a healthy dog and will stick to its general characteristics. And the sable part is not important. Black and tan is also fine with me.

And though its my first dog, but i am generally good with dogs. So i think i can handle it pretty well :)

So i visited the kennel today, got 2 pics of the pup. Please have a look at the pics in my profile and tell me if the pup is good or not. The guy said that he got to choose one pup as he owned the Mating-Stud, and no KCI registration is available for the pup. He said he can register the pup with KCI as unknown origin if i want it that much (for some extra charges).
so should i go with this ? or get it from somewhere else ? Please guide me!

she is definetly not 30 days must be atleast 50 she is a single coat pup which is nice how much was the cost? well i strongly suggest you buy a pup who has the papers and the 5 generations atleast that can tell if health problems with the dogs forfathers and stuff . pup loooks healthy and very good pigmentation .

well yea...the guy told me that he (its a male pup) is 45 days old. The cost is 7-8k at max, but no papers.

So should i go with it, or look for more expensive option (with proper papers and all ) ?

worth to spend 7 to 8 k
if you want to buy papers are just like proofs of the lineage if you want to show your dog you need papers but if you want a nice pet its very good if you are taking it which i will suggest you to take it be sure to take the pup with its owner to a vet and get him examined the pup and check if hes physically Ok ::) before you buy if anything possible TRY to know as much about his parents try to see them if possible .

that is the main problem, the parents are not available meet/see/check. I dont care about the lineage or showing in dog shows, but i do want a healthy puppy which should be free of genetic problems (if possible) and as close to its breed's behavior as possible.

And i am getting another puppy, much healthier looking, with KCI papers (Sired by an Import), 40 days old, from a member here, almost at the same price.

So which should i go for ?

this is definately better looking than the previous one.will surely develop into the breed that you are looking for.but double coat requires much more attention than the single coat.in my area the pups are only 7 days old and they have no papers.if the price is same go for 2nd option.but check the pup in person before comitting.

Hi Sachin, if you've decided to buy a GSD make urself prepared for hour long gromming this breed requires. These dog shed heavily. So keep urself prepared. Make sure ur other family members are prepared to tolerate this and more importantly, make sure noone's allergic to hair in your house.
It's good u've decided to have a puppy of a decent pedigree. U can go for a KCI registered puppy as that'll certify the puppy's ancestory and will confirm the puppy is of the same breed as that of his ancestors.
GSD come in various price range depending upon their quality. Like any other breed, a puppy of good pedigree will cost more. Similarly, if the puppy belongs to a champion bloodline, he'll be heavily priced.
KCI registration is recommended only when u intend to show your dog in show rings. If u are not into dog shows, get a pet quality puppy as it'll be lot cheaper than show quality one. Usually, a good pet quality puppy will cost between 8k to 10k. A KCI registered puppy will be around 15k-18k.
My experience says a good breeder may sell a pure breed puppy but he may not sell a healthy puppy. Health is as important a consideration than puppy's breed. What's the use of having a pure breed GSD, if he's sick or
has genetic disorder?
Thus, get as heathy puppy as possible.
