Tiger GSD health and nutrition questions?

Hey guys. I have a 4.5 months old GSD, short coat variety. He is called Tiger, and is pretty known in this forum for his bad health & my ignorance !! Now he is alright & good going. I have a few issues with this guy. He is not putting on weight at all.. for close to 5 months age, he is just 14.5kgs and looks lean and many ppl comment that he looks starved for food. Though i feed him thrice a day, he effectively eats only once! I remove the food from him after 20-25 mins, but he isnt bothered. He eats well in the night before gng to bed at 10pm. And that too 1.5 cups of sabor vida. That is it. This eating habit has improved now after i m using Liv52 tablet 30 mins before feeding him in the morning and night. He eats about 2.5 cups on a whole day now & little curd rice mixed with it. But still no improvement in looking fat/stout !! I feel he is lean for his age. I also mix Samfur powder (egg protien) in his food. How do i get him to grow beter ? I was mixing royal canin & sabor vida earlier.. now bought a 3kg Natural Trainer pack, to try him if this helps. What else to do ? Also, doc gave me deworming tabs to be given to him after 5 days of his booster dose. What is the right time to give those tabs? any condition that he shudnt eat after those tabs or something like that ? plz help me

if you are ok with meat you may research prey model RAW diet.
it has done very well for some. however, some dogs find it hard to adjust to it.

where do we get it in Bangalore ? we are veggies and dont cook non-veg at home. If it is a ready food like royal canin etc, i dont mind trying it. but where to go for tht?

I am not aware of any pre packed raw diet available in India. Raw feeders have to be good friends with the local butchers here.
I think being vegetarians you will have to explore other possibilities.
Some claim that RC and Eukenuba are the best of what is available here. They are lot better than stuff like Pedigree but they get one star in the range of one to six at https://www.dogfoodanalysis.co m/dog_food_reviews/

normally three to six months old pups are dewormed once a month and once every three months after that.

yea, his deworming is late by a couple of days. He was vomiting yesteday after he had carrots. So, i refrained from giving him the deworming tablets. Can I give those today ? Should he eat immediately after tablets or how is it ?

De-worming can sometime cause diarrhea and vomiting. since tiger was already vomiting yesterday you did well by holding back. get his fecal sample tested to check if he has some medical condition and get a vets opinion on whether you should de-worm now. it is not advisable to go for de-worming if the puppy is unwell.

i hope you have access to a good vet.

sorry guys, he was actually vomiting on saturday ! and only after the carrots feast.. later he had curd rice in the night & yesterday his normal diet and no vomits... his motion is also usual.. Yesterday he was quite active and normal. even today nothing untoward.. so should i administer the deworming tablet or consult the vet ?

There is no harm in consulting the vet. If he is well & active then u can deworm him.
In the summer dogs become less active & doesn't like to eat during the day. So try giving less amount during day time. Feed him properly after the sun sets. Give a lot of curd to keep him cool. Even my pup, who otherwise is a foodie, is not eating properly during the daytime. So I give him more at night.
Pups get bored very easily with kibbles. Mine wont even touch them. I guess Tiger is also bored with them. Try some home made food for a change. RAW diet would have been best but I guess u wont be able to handle that being a veggie person. A pup who only eats kibbles do vomit after having raw/home made diets, dont panic. Just go slow. Dont force him to eat & try to keep him cool.

yea.. Tiger is pretty cool and nice now.. even when he had to vomit, he was running to the door, looking at us to open it for him !! he has curd rice (very liquidy & mixed with cod liver oil) and eats it to full in the night. I am also not feeding him much in the day... his first meal is at 6am in the morning, when i mix kibbles with samfur powder & cod liver oil (1sp).. he likes this oil a lot & doc said its good for him & more to his fur which seems to be greying up a lot !

He is active & playful wen we are around. I will deworm him today, coz he is gng to board in a kennel this weekend (owned by the vet himself), coz we ll be off to madurai for 3 days. Tiger usually likes carrots and steals them from the kitchen whenever they r kept washed & cut.. doesnt like it other wise (smart fella)

Plz vccinate him against kennel cough virus before leaving him at any kennel. That will ensure ur Tiger's safety. Try giving him paneer also. Raw veggies r good specially carrots. Let him have them. Jack (my gsd) also loves to eat fresh raw carrots.
Occassional vomitting is ok if ur pup is passing normal stool & not showing weakness. Jack also sometimes vomits after eating raw meat even though he gets them almost regularly. I generally give him curd rice in the next meal if he vomits.

Hey guys .. Thanks a lot for your suggestions & help

Yesterday i dewormed tiger. ( i mixed the tablet in water and gave it thru syringe) He was fine and active except that he passes loose motions whenever he tries to poo. he pooped loose abt 3 times yest before sleeping at 11 & again today morning after waking up at 6. very loose & liquidy.. but still he is as active as ever running around. we are feeding him only curd rice since yest.. mixed wid cod liver oil. Is it normal to have so many loose motions? when will he get alright ?

If loose motion continues then try giving him 1/2 tablet metrogyl once...that should stop loose motion. If it doesn't stop then consult a vet.
@Samir: Jack gets to eat raw chicken...hasn't tried raw mutton yet though he eats raw mutton liver & other organs & cooked mutton. I avoid beef due to worm hazards.

Thanks samir.. I wanted to switch over to eukanuba, but didnt get the right pack, so moved to Natural Trainer now. Tiger eats better than earlier, I give him one feeding of Natural Trainer in the morning at 5am, and half feeding of Natural Trainer at 6pm.. and again curd rice at 10pm... curdrice is still the best he eats :D he likes curds & buttermilk more than anything..
