Can some one suggest some permanent cure for this problem.?

Hi, I adopted a street puppy last month. After a week, I can see some ich forming (some dry scale like formation) over its skin. The vet doctor mentioned that he may have some worms due to which the nutritions to the skin may not be used properly and gave a medicine to kill the worms. Also he gave and antibiotic which will cure this ich soon. Next day, we found a dead worm in his poop and also after feeding the antibiotic, the ich was reduced much. But recently I saw that the ich is coming again in the same place and we also see some live worms again in his poop. Can some one suggest some permanent cure for this problem. We became much attached to him and this only problem make us think whether we should leave him again or keep him with us. Regards, Suresh

give him a nice bathe with petben shampoo. He seems to lack Omega 3 & 6 in his diet. to supplement you can add 1/2 tspn of sunflower oil in his food. This will take about 3 weeks to vanish. So you need patience. Now since he is a bit domesticated, he will not survive in street. Hence keep him and have him treated.

Dear Anil,

Thanks for the reply. The vet doctor told me not to give bath the puppy since he is just around 1 and half months old and may not be able to withstand the cold. So I use to give him towel bath with Dettol mixed water. I am feeding him with milk mixed with some rice or Idli both morning and night. Can I add the sunflower oil in this mix ? What about the worms problem. Do I need to Deworm him again ?

Hi Suresh, I wont be much help to you to resolve this issue, bt one thing is sure that you must not feed him milk mixed with rice...and Idli is a sure shot NO NO cuz idli is made of furmented ricefloor, anything furmented is not good for skin...Hope this will help you...to choose a better alternative...Pls consult a Vet and ask if you can feed him Boiled Chicken with Rice ? It is very good for Puppies...bt too much of chicken is not good at this age cuz he is too young....

ok since he a month old, get Nemocid suspension from any medical shop. its 10 ml in all.give him 2.5 ml in morn and 2.5 ml in night.Repeat next day also. Say 10 ml to be given 4 times TWICE daily. so it becomes 2.5 ml per dose for 4 times over a span of 48 hrs.
Avoid dettol.. it causes burn sensation. Use savlon.
For feeding add boiled eggs or meat in his diet

This is a minor problem and as indicated by Anil it will vanish soon. You need not abandon your pet for this.
When my pet was small even I used to sponge her with water and Savlon. Ectoparasites are responsible for endoparasites. You can use Bulfo Powder for ectoparacites, though it's not recommended as he is only a month old. After using the powder his coat should be properly brushed. He should not lick it. Otherwise you may brush his coat properly for longer time.
For proper worming, from a fortnight after treatment with Nemocid, start treating him with Drontal Puppy (1ml/kg body wt.). This should be repeated in every 15 days till he turns 6 months.
In Medical Science one can be infected with worms from vivid sources some of which is beyond our imagination. So worm all your family members when you worm your pup for the second time for a healthy worm-free family as you can also be infected from your pup. Now this is not panicy. Talk to your family physician.

Rest be very particular about his vaccinations, especially Rabbies. Hope, you have already done his Puppy DP vaccination.

Talk to your vet if the eruptions are vigorous.

Hi,
Thanks for the comments. Yesterday I again took him to the vet doctor. He gave the same medicine (yellow color medicine, I don't know the name) for Deworming. Yesterday we put the first vaccination and the doctor mentioned some oinment for that skin problem. I have started using it from today.
Thanks for the advices. So, to summarize I need to avoid, Dettol and use Salvon , avoid Milk with Idli and need to check on alternate foods for him. Since he is put with vacinnation yesterday only, I am planning to start with Nemocid a week after with the dosage as advised by Anil. Will post you on how it progress. I have posted some pic of him (we have named him 'Billa') in my profile. Do check it when u find time.

Hi,
Thanks for your query.
Billa is Fine now. I am feeding him with rice, chicken, eggs etc.
That skin problem has totally gone now.
Tried the Nemocid as mentioned by Anil, The worms are reduced now. But I can see a few sometimes. The only thing pending is his toilet habits. He is not comfortable to go out in the street. (A lot of stray dogs and heavy traffic in my place.) So he is given a corner in my balcony. Need to change that habit. One more thing is that he is not responding to his name.

Regards,
Suresh
