Hi Gurpreet,

There are many organisation which give shelter to homeless dogs. People for Animals-PFA (started by Menka Gandhi) is one of the prominent organisation to cater this.
There are PFA centers in almost all the major cities. You need to contact local vet to know about the details.

There are few more organisations such as: blue cross https:// , paws in delhi

Let me know in what city you are looking for the pet shelters, I believe I will be able to provide you pin point information.

I am in GREAT PROBLEM.I am telling you the whole story.I am Anindita from a small town Silchar assam. When I used to come from my college I would see a street dog sitting in front of my gate.I am a great animal lover.I can't see any animals in pain or be sad.I loved that dog as it was my pet and used to give her biscuits. It was a grown up dog, almost 2 years old. Then I started providing her meal for lunch and dinner.I used to call her as tommy and after few days she started responding to this name.First it would not come near me,as no one loved her before.Every one would throw stones towards her,she was always in fear. But then she realised that I was not like other people and would always hug me with her fore limbs and would shake her tail and become very happy whenever she saw me,heard my voice. She would go with me wherever I would go walking
Then she gave birth to three puppies.2 boys and 1 girl. She allowed only me and my mother to touch
her babbies. But my street people are animal haters and they didnot like my love towards them and always criticize about me and my parents. So when I felt that I cannot maintain so many dogs together,I gave 2 of the dogs to 2 of my drivers who promised me that they would love the dog very much.No one was ready to take the female dog.So I kept the female dog with me named jolly.Every one would say that this dog has born with luck to be with me.I never made her realize that she was a street dog's baby. She would sleep in my pillow. She would sit in the kitchen quitely and watch my mother cooking. It was like my friend. But I couldnot stop her going out as her mother was outside.I can't chain these dogs because as they are street dogs thet are not habituated
belt and chain and to live with their master.Tommy would sit in my garrage or near my gate.Jolly didnot like living inside the house completely. She would go with her mother, roaming in my street. One day jolly died vomiting blood.I and my parents cried very much.Tommy called me with her forelimbs and wiped my tears. From some days later I saw more three dogs with tommy and tommy treating them as they were her own children. They started living on our garrage and I gave them meals. They are almost of 8 months.I can't touch them, but they also love me very much. The problem is that they cannot tolerate other people except me and my family and would start barking.
The problem is with my street people who are animal haters and they planned to inform Nagas, the people who cut and eat dogs.Neither I can stop my dogs to go outside nor I can stop the people from informing Nagas. In our town we donot have any animals help organisation. Please help me.I am waiting for your reply.

Animals who don’t have homes are really helpless, but we will pray for them……..
I read the story about ur Tommy it was really shocking that who is this dog eaters Nagas? Infact im listening for the first time... May be im not aware of this becoz I m from south (Bangalore) and in Bangalore there are people who will kill the stray dogs but not eat…

Anyway this an serious issue, we will have to find out some Blue cross or Animal rescue centers address in Assam through internet where they can take action against this…
We have to protect Tommy and the other pets from this Worst people Nagas and the cruel people in ur street…., they all will go to hell for showing this much enemity on the speechless creatures….anyway try to send emails to the near by Bluecross centers and give a complaint against them immediately.

i suggest instead of wasting time and effort to find an NGO, spay/neuter a dog once a month.... i do about 3-4 dogs a month on my own expense.... its better and more satisfying than begging any NGO..

yes above comment are aptly correct
i agree with doggie dude and mr rana comment
but we can submit these stray dog to sanjay gandhi hopital in raja garden opp to sivaji collage
they take care of them a lot them have seperate section for stray dog
even this hospital give good clothes and bed to stray dog along with good food and shelter
i think this much is sufficent for these loving ly dogs but
common pepole can also keep stray dog with them
all the best dog lover keep it up

Misha,
fortunately i have a 200,000 sq feet kennel where i keep all the rescued dogs and strays.. after surgery they are there for a month to heal. once they are fine, they are left in their area. if someone feels uncomfortable, they are brought back at kennel and stay there. like right now i have more than a dozen Pariah dogs in there..After surgery they need 72 hrs care like not much movement, playing, mixing with other dogs as it might break the stiches etc... then as it goes in drying phase the dogs gets normal. and Pariah/stray adapt very much faster than pure breed ones. One gotta take slight pain to reduce others pain.

CUPA animal Shelter or any other animal shelter for that matter is the worst place to leave your puppy, street dogs or pups or your own pet. It’s better to leave it with anyone else who wants a dog even if it is your driver or servant (anyone who loves dogs). Once a dog or puppy is left in CUPA or any other shelter for that matter it is sentenced to death. Puppies are exposed to diseased filled cages and rooms. Which are never disinfected. The sickly ones are mixed with the healthy ones and within 5 days be assured the pup or dog you have left is dead. As soon as your pup/dog arrives they are put in small cages (which are never disinfected) and left there for 5 to 10 days depending on when it dies, they are not given water at all because the attenders do not want to keep wiping away their urine. They get dehydrated and infected with viral diseases and death is the only consequence. If they don’t die they at least get very sickly because of dehydration and infection and the doctors come and euthanize them.

So that’s the fate of a dog or a puppy in animal shelters. A very tiny number of them survive and after maybe 10- 15 days are moved from the tiny cages and put in other enclosures.

My personal experience is as follows, In front of my gate a street dog littered 4 pups, within 3 weeks the puppies were filled with ticks but were pretty healthy, i took the 4 puppies, de-ticked them with medicated dog shampoo for 2 weeks (4 times) and they were completely free of all ticks after which i let them mix around with my own 5 dogs. I fed them ceralac since they needed nutrition, after which i fed them healthy dog food and meat and rice for about 2 months. They were healthy, playful and just a delight. 1 got adopted by an electrician who loves dogs (who is doing great now). I wanted to find good homes for the other three since I couldn’t keep all of them. So i contacted CUPA, Hebbal, Bangalore and they said that they will take the puppies and that they will surely get adopted, i wanted to keep tab and if they don’t get adopted that I would take them back.

I dropped them there, they put them in a small cage, and assured me in all ways possible (Only they had other intentions, i am sure everyone knows the intentions of NGOs). I visited them the next day to check if they were eating and they were since I saw a bowl of rice with egg in their cage, do not get fooled they are fed but they are not given any water, when I asked them why they said they might spill it. But the reason is clear the lazy attenders never give any of the dogs or puppies water since they have to clean up their urine. I never knew this at that time. I visited them after 4 days (They were still in the small cage not moved) again and realized they were very thin and took them back, if I dint I wouldn’t have never known what actually happens there. As soon as they were with me I gave them water, they were gulping it like they had never seen water in days, I brought them home, and they had a smelly loose motion and vomiting all the time, no appetite, depressed and very still all the time. They did not eat anything but sat next to the mug of water the whole day sipping and just looking at it. The next morning 1 of the puppies died (Her Name was Phoebe), and 2 of my dogs started the same symptoms of loose motion and vomiting, I took the remaining 2 puppies and the 2 dogs to the vet and he explained to us that it is viral infection which effects the gastro intestinal tract and without treatment survival is not possible. He gave them antibiotics and they are currently on treatment.

I then found out from the people there that CUPA kills 30-60 puppies a day (supposed to be genuine ngo, imagine the other animal shelters). And god only knows how many other animals die every day. If you have healthy puppies or dogs do not leave them in animal shelters of any kind, be patient and give it to a family that loves dogs even though you might think they cannot take care of it very well but trust me it is better than putting them in shelters.

Street dogs and puppies are the worst treated there. The attenders are rough and treat them like furniture, they are not cared for as you might think.

Please do not leave any animals in shelters or homes or no-kill shelters. That is all crap. They have one intention and we all know what that is. Please be patient and give it to any human who may be interested in the animal. But never never never in a shelter.

P.S: you will see some 3 legged dogs, and other injured dogs and animals displayed in the main area and in the corridors of these shelters but these animals are the permanent residents there who get a home no doubt but this is just for show. The animals that come in on a daily bases are treated like non-living things and are placed in infected places giving them a ticket to death. 5-10 days is how long a dog or pup will survive in these conditions with no water and eventually die. The sickly ones and street dogs/pups are euthanized.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I am a student currently pursuing masters…I love animals..mostly attached to dogs and cats….I live in Silchar,Assam….the plight of the street dogs here is really sad…specially during the winter it gets worser..last winter a number of dogs were found dead on the streets due to extreme cold and also on the onsight of summer a epidemic disease spread here so it also took several dogs’ life..but here no one ..no authority neither the administration is concerned about it..there is also no such organisation as such any NGO for animals…but I want to do something,,all these should be stopped..so Sir and Madam here…I just seek your kind help and advice about how to proceed…how to make people understand and convince them for this work…everyone is so busy with their
own life…can I contact the administration about this and if I approach them..then how?please suggest me,,,

Hi,
I am from Bangalore. Can you please give me some details of dog care centers in Bangalore.I have tried many places and dint receive a positive response.
I take care of around 8 street dogs. I have no problem in taking care of the dogs by providing food. Recently a new dog has joined this lot( deserted by its owners, seems like a pet dog.It had a collar belt). He chases all the vehicles on the road and gets hit by the vehicles and by the people in my street. It is very sad to see the condition of the dog and he would not stay within my house compound too.

Kindly help.
Regards

Hi
I am from ghaziabad, there is a street dog(female) In my society who is continuously crying for last two days, I even tried to give her some painkillers but she is not eating anything. She recently gave birth to 3 puppies and they r barely 1 month old and are dependent on their mother who is not in a good state.
Are there any organizations in Ghaziabad that work for the stray dogs??

Near my office, there was this stray dog, he was quite ill and I contacted Friendicos in Gurgaon for that dog. They came and took the dog and sent it to their Delhi branch. The dog is getting treated over there. I would love if someone can adopt that dog. He is a friendly dog and will do good with a family. Plz revert.

Like Mayank, I also have a problem where there is a stray dog around 2 years of age who is used to me and my daughter cause we feed her daily. Recently she was injured and we ensured that she got medical care. We have a neighbor that is absolutely horrendous and they hate dogs so they will throw water on this dog and create a ruckus. I am sure I can use the law to straighten them but this is a problem that I believe can be solved amicably. I wish there is some place where I can send this stray so that she can have a dignified life and live well. I will miss her but be happy that she is living a good life. If anyone has details about such a shelter in Thane or Mumbai do send me a message on gmail.

I live in Salt lake city of Kolkata ,for the past two weeks I have been noticing a male dog who happens to live near a food stall but surprisingly does not get anything to eat .But still he doesn't want to leave that place and go somewhere else in search of food probably because he is very weak and shrunken to fight for food with other dogs in that area ,moreover if he is not rescued at the earliest he may die of starvation. I want to contact an NGO organisation in Kolkata who can come and rescue the animal from dying.Sayan Sengupta-9836610249.Egmail.
