My 7 month old GSD has stopped eating well, please help?

Hi All, need your advise for a problem that i am facing with my dog. He is a 7 month old GSD, from a champion bloodline and having a good body structure. He was very health till the age of 5.5 months then i had to leave the country twice (for a week each time), had to take the help of pet boarding available in Dehradun. He has stopped eating well since that time.He was always on a diet of Royal Canin products.now a days he is loosing weight and is not much interested in food, dosent attack his food like he used to earlier.pls advise as to what I should do, The vet is not able to be of much help in this case.Mr.D. Singh, am consulting Dr. Gupta at Near SBI main branch in DDun.I even changed to Eukanuba , Dog Tallow and Dried meat avaiable at the Pet Store but all these have not been of much help.Last Deworming was a month back.

There is no proper pet boarding in DDun so I wonder which crook u kept your valuable dog with. Any way. Have you checked for any wounds or scars on the body, just do a general check up by feeling his entire body and see if he feels discomfort or pain anywhere. Also ask the place where you left him about any problem etc which he may have had there, health wise or fights with other dogs etc.

Also show him to another vet and get a second opinion as at time one person is not able to catch what is wrong. There is a Dr. Amardeep Bali near balipur chowk off chakrata road opposite Wadia institute. Go show it to him and get a second opinion. What is your dogs weight and what and how much did you give for deworming.

ROyal Canin for GSD is the best and use that do not sudenly change food and dog can go off it also and not eat. If require you can also get an X ray done to see and object stuck in the stomach, but first tell me about the deworming etc, as it should be worms and also sudden change of food.

Four Tablets of CANTEL... for a 28kg DOG...? One cantel Tablet for every 10 kgs... that means you should have only given 3 at the most. Anyways.... STOP Eukanuba and switch back to Royal Canin.

My Suggestions: because he is growing up and almost outta the puppyhood he wont feel as greedy and hungry as he did. Now i guess Ddun's weather has been warm this year so it can be one of the reasons.

Try Skipping his meal.. or reducing the quantity for 1-2 days. He might start feeling hungry again. Get him to do some running around with the ball and take him for a long walk.

Get some psylium Husk (isabgol) natural. Add 3/4 tsp to a katori or curd and give it to him once a day for two days.

Give him Evion 600 IU for a week, one tablet a day. I really hope he starts eating cauz its very difficult to handle fussy eaters if that is what he is becoming. and if you please, you can give him Liv-52 syrup twice a day atleast 30 mins before his meal time, about 20ml for 15 days .

None of these so called medicines have any ill-effect hence there is no harm in trying and it wont cost you anything but less than Rs200 put together.

Hope your guy gets down to eating business again.

warm wishes

HELLO SIMBA EVION ONLY HAS VIT.E NOTHING ELSE AND HAS NO ROLE FOR FOD INTAKE ENHANCEMENT AND OFCOURSE ISABGOL IS JUST LAXATIVE.. I RECOMMEND LIV-52 SAME QUANTITY AS MENTIONED AND AS HE IS 28 KGS ITS GOOD WEIGHT. PLZ STOP ROYAL CANIN GRADUALLY AND COME TO HOME FOOD WITH LOTS OF CHICKEN OR RED MEAT BOILED. HE WILL BE FINE DON'T WORRY. HE IS JUST LIKE OUR KIDS EAT LESS AND PLAY MORE.

I know about the composition@aks,
If your dog has less intake of food, Vit.E is a good supplement as it is also an immunity booster and is good for the Dog's coat. Laxative helps to clean up the stomach which further helps in getting hunger back. I dont like to talk much unless i have tried and tested these methods. I speak from experience.

HEY VIT. E IS A GOOD SUPPLEMENT FOR COAT SHINE AND IMMUNITY, BUT I DOESN'T THINK IT IS GOOD FOR HUNGER IN DOGS.I WOULD GO WITH THE LIV.52 FOR THIS PROBLEM. IF U WANT BETTER RESULT THEN TRY ALFA-ALFA (I.Q) IN HOMEOPATHY.THAT IS THE BEST ONE FOR SUCH TYPE OF PROBLEM ,EVAN I TRIED MYSELF FOR MY SAINT FEMALE OF 8 MONTHS AND THE RESULTS R VERY GOOD.I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST U TO GIVE HIM A REGULAR WALK NOT RUNNING.THAN USE ROYAL.
THANKS

My advice is :
1. Check with your vet
2. Deworm as per vet's advice
3. Change to home cooked diet : Cooked eggs+rice dal+vegetables+meat(try chicken neck from any butcher shop works very well but remove all large spiny bones)
4. Add Vitamins/calcium as per vet's advice
5. Give him plenty of exercise

AGAIN I WOULD MENTION HOME FOOD LIKE PIG MEAT, MUTTON ,RICE ,DAL AND CHICKEN. .........
AND Mr.AGAM I RESPECT UR "EXPERIENCE" BUT LAXATIVE IS ONLY TO BE GIVEN TO A PATIENT OR DOG WITH SEVERE CONSTIPATION OR DRY AND HARD STOOL. FOR HUNGRY DOG PLEASE TRY "PRACTIN SYRUP" FREELY AVAILABLE AT CHEMIST STORES NEAR U. PLEASE READ THE "INDICATIONS" COLUMN BEFORE USING ANY MEDICINE.
