Saint Bernard 6 months of age recently diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia, help?

Okay, I'm from India and I have a Saint Bernard. He is of 6 months old age and he was recently diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia (right hip). The doctor put him on a supplement called Inhancer . The joint supplement must work for about 2-3 years without causing him any pain but sooner or later we will have to look at surgery. But, here's the thing, as far as I know, surgery for Canine hip dysplasia is not available in India. (1) Or is it? I don't mind travelling abroad just to get his surgery done. (2) So is that possible? Like take him with me to the US or something for his surgery? I know the minimal price to pay for a Hip dysplasia surgery would be about (1000 USD-1500 USD) but, I'm okay with it because I really love him! (3) Are there any cheaper alternative hip surgeries in other countries? China or Australia for instance? (4) Lastly, would it be better if I get his surgery done at this stage or should I wait a few more years? Please, any advice would be of great help! Please have a heart and avoid unnecessary comments.

Best option in India is to contact Dr Pawde (IVRI) He is a member in this forum. Search
for him and discuss before doing anything in India.

Hi Abhay..I have a golden retriever who is one year old now.Hez diagnosed with hip displasia when he was 6 months old.I have tried many supplements but had very little effect. There are antibiotics for this but it can only reduce the pain temporarily..I have done so much of research, spoke with many doctors.Doctors unfortunately are not consistent in their solutions. After many calls and advises,i realized that surgery is only and best option and shd be asap so that the doggy will be relived from pain.Note:The surgery will only help to relive the pain.It will not bring back the normal gait position of the dog.but thats ok.I had the surgery done to my dog 2.5 months ago and he looks fine now. After so much of research i have finalized Dr.Ayyappan from madras veterinary college to do the surgery. He is a very experienced in small animal ortho and one of the best in india.U can check with him.I think anil-doggies dude and some experts in dogs world might have heard of him..All the best to u and will wish ur dog will recover very soon.Nice to know someone who cares about his dog companion very much.take care..

I too have a male st bernard, and was diagnosed with hd at the age of 3 months, his HD was very bad as both the joints were out of the socket, we tried many medicines, but nothing helped, and we were planning to get his surgery done after he turned 1 year old, but the surgery is very risky as there are many blood vessels around the hip joints, one of my doctors tried out this experimental ayurvedic medicine on my dog and a few other dogs, and they all have shown spectacular results, my dog is almost one year old now and he is much better, he has a slight limp in one of his legs, but over-all im very happy with the results, i will be happy to help anyone who is facing the same problem. call me at 9871703636
