Boxer owners tell whether there is actually excessive drooling by a Boxer during summers?

Hi. This is a question for all Boxer owners. Actually a friend of mine wants to keep a Boxer but is worried about how much it will drool, especially in the scorching Delhi summers. So I would like to know from all Boxer owners whether there is actually excessive drooling by a Boxer during summers - in the sense that does it become a problem - does the floor and everything in the house become sticky and covered in drool or is it manageable? My friend wants to keep a Boxer solely as a pet and was asking me about this - since I have never kept a Boxer I am not in a position to answer this and hence thought I would post this question in dogspot. Thanks in advance.

Hi Vikram, I own 5 boxers, drooling is common in boxers but again it depends whether you keep ur dog indoors or outdoors. Dog breeds like Boxer, Pug, Bull Dog etc which have short noses (Punch) would definitely cant take the scorching heat. If you can keep them in cool temp nothing like it.

I am no expert in Boxers, but have got one for the last 10 odd yrs in the hills. Basically what I have seen is that after exercise and then when they drink water it drools a bit at times. But its manageable as long as you wipe it with a towel and keep the dog inside the house in a cool place. With age my boxer now seems to drool more after drinking water. However, they drool much less I would say as compared to other breeds which have more of a saging mouth.

It is good that your friend is doing a proper research on the breed and its suitability, before actually buying one. Also keep in mind that they are an energetic breed and require quite a bit of exercise to keep them calm and happy in the house.

Hi Kamal - visitted your profile and saw your Boxer dogs. They look lovely. However I have a question - it's still not clear to me the difference between American line Boxers and European lines - could you please tell me - with pictures as examples if you can. Thanks again. If anyone else replies I will appreciate that too

Hey Vikram, thanks for your lovely comments. Well the basic difference in a American line & European line is that -American boxers have been bred for show purpose , very well know for their elegance, confirmation, body
struture & angulation. European boxers are more robust in size & compact. They have excellent heads & beautiful upturn but their hinds are poor as they loin is angulated downwards. Hence we believe in breeding both American & European lines together to get the best of both ie Huge head (European side) & elegant body posture (American side) Hope this helps u understand better. All da best..:)
