I was looking for some extras to add to his food that he will love to eat?

While in market, I saw some canned foods for dogs. Are they fine/ok to be given to my 11mnth old gsd? He is mainly on home-made food, but I was looking for some extras to add to his food that he will love to eat.

dont go for Canned food ! go for Dry food like Nutripet , RC , Eucknuba, Pedgiree. why do you want to give your pet Canned food? instead give him dry food for one time in the morning and in the night give him home made food!

He wont eat dry food...not even once....I tried every brand....he eats them initially for 3-4 days...then wont even touch them...so I shifted to home made foods...
I was thinking of adding some canned food to his food for a change...may be once in a while

Ya...supplement is must...I give him calcium & multi vitamin regularly
I can suggest some recipe liked by my pup...u may also try
1)Over-cooked rice+chicken soup+shredded cooked chicken+boiled potato/veggie
2)Make chicken khichdi (rice+chicken broth+chicken pieces+pulses+veggie)
3)Boiled egg+well cooked pasta(plain)/noodles+any veggie boiled
4)Pulse+potato (maily as snacks)
5)Curd rice once a week to boost his apetite
6)Shredded cheese/paneer+rice/pasta
7)Bread+shredded chicken+pulse soup+veggie
8)His favorite: Chicken rolls (roti dipped in chicken soup+shredded chicken, mixed them together, make balls/rolls, dip in flour & fry a lil)
I also replace chicken with meat sometimes.

basic issue when a dog refuses food is that he thinks himself as the ALFA of the family. You got to be master. Best way (need to kill your emotions for sure) is to put the food bowl and if he does not eat take it away. do NOT feed anything. again next feeding time place the bowl. Then move if after say 10 min. Eventually the dog will start eating when hunger strikes hard.

Generally he eats home-made food without any problem...but will not eat dried food even if he has not eaten for the whole day...I tried that one day...he ate nothing except water for the whole day...kept looking for his bowl, but still did eat the died food...I waited for about 24 hrs...then nxt day I gave him some curd+bread...ate completely...that was the day I shifted to home made food....
When I saw canned food I thought may be I can add a lil to his food to make it more attractive to him...just for a change so that he is not bored of same food

see if a dog is given good Homemade or RAW diet, he would never give kibbles a look. He knows which food is better for him.

Hungry Paws> If they are new to RAW they might vomit... but its not to be alarmed. Bad juices comes out which are formed due to preservatives in dry kibble.

one important thing. there is a bone in shape of needle which i avoid to give to pups as it might cause some injury inside... my view which differs from many barfers as India does not have advanced vet facilities in case emergency occurs. Unfortunately in my place (lucknow) vets are unavailable when emergency occurs... They might be sitting idle inside but they say very busy...lol..

sorry missed the location of that needle bone

In the Thigh there is a long and very sharp Bone. It “could” cause a problem if it pierces your Dogs Mouth so remove it. If you remove this sharp Needle like Bone then the rest of the Chicken is safe.

Same here....no vet available in emergency, specially after 5pm..assuming that nothing can happen after 5...lol
Any othr precautions??
