In a report generated by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, it was noticed that there has been a sharp decline in dog bite cases in 2014 as compared to those in 2013 in Srinagar. The report also showed that the dog population has been brought under control.

The highest number of dog bite cases in India usually come from Srinagar, a city known to be one of the 10 cleanest cities in the country. Since 2012, when the State Human Rights Commission termed dog menace as a human rights violations and shot a show-cause notice to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, the civic body has taken a number of steps to curb the dog menace in the city. One of the measures taken was to reduce the feeding grounds i.e. clean up and build an effective waste disposal system, so that the dogs are not able to feed on the garbage. Another measure was to sterilise the dogs and reduce the population naturally.
