Stray Dogs In Manipal and Udupi killed by Govt

21 Apr 2010 | by | Posted in: Wag News

I got an email from Jaya Sinha which mentions the cruel step adopted by the Govt Authority in Manipal and Udupi.

Strangly we have breeders and dog lovers there but it seems they have turned a blind eye to this issue.

" In September 2008 I had gone to Manipal and Udupi. At that time there were many stray dogs. But this time i saw there were hardly any dog.I had spoken to watiter of Hangyo Restaurat (Manipal) and my collegues. They have informed me that Municipality people take stray dogs and put them to sleep(Injection).
I dont have any photographs or other details and local people are least bother about stray killing."

"Recently i had gone to Manipal and Udupi.I was told all stray dogs are killed.I would like to know if stray dog killing is allowed in Karnataka.Do you know any animal welfare organization in South Karnataka."

I would request if anyone knows about the same can post further details and also if any NGO in these city can be contacted/

I thank Ms Jaya Sinha to bring this issue to notice of others.

according to the Cruelty to animals act , no government official must indulge in killing dogs as he may be liable for action under the CSS( Conduct ) rules.

The mentality of the public must change. Most of the public feel that stray dogs are a nuisance and that they must not be around. On the flip side they do not follow basic civic rules like throwing garbage properly into the bins.
